This joke was going around (printed / copied) in the #1990s. So much that I used to say "do not apply for an extension" to certain friends and everyone knew what I was talking about.

I do like most of their songs ( #KRTH now plays #1970s, #1980s, #1990s in place of their former #1950s, #1960s, and early 1970s music ).
I have noticed in the last few years that a lot of it no longer evokes the same strong emotions that it once did.
-
One of my brothers said that #KRTH changed its oldies format some time ago, away from “real oldies”. I like a lot of the #1980s music also, so I could still listen if I had the inclination.
I think I remember hearing songs by Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Human League while I was doing my laundry. There were a small number of songs that I did not recall hearing before, but there was a point in the 1980s and #1990s that I was so busy working and taking classes that I barely heard radio at all, so they could still be from the 1980s time period.

#Excel struggles to do things that #QuattroPro and #Lotus did in the #1990s. I don't use #LibreOffice often, but I'm pretty sure the same things are easily doable there, too.

Last night after work, I stopped to do laundry. The laundromat had a radio playing. #KRTH-101 used to be oldies from the late #1950s through the #1960s to the early #1970s (since they changed to that format around 1974), so I was very surprised when everything I heard appeared to be from the late 1970s through the #1980s to early #1990s.
I liked the music, but it wasn't the K-Earth I used to listen to. It felt like the old K-Earth was lost.

Dang. Was this really 28 years ago? It doesn't seem like it was that far back when I first heard this.

A couple of things I've heard !Smalltalk people say killed their market:
1. Smalltalk's image-based system didn't mesh well with OS filesystems;
2. #Smalltalk vendor turmoil and their high pricing.
(I wasn't even aware of the language's existence until the late #1990s. I took numerous programming courses over the years, but I never heard ST mentioned until another student mentioned it in a #Java course. )

Personally, I never liked #IRC, so I quickly stopped using it back in the late #1990s. Sometime in the 2000s or 2010s, I started to use #SILC (through their CLI client based on the "irssi" IRC client), and only through SILC did I learn to tolerate IRC. Today, I almost always use IRC through bridges to #Matrix or #XMPP MUCs.
And even though I usually have multiple terminal windows open on my desktop, I only use GUI IRC clients.

Back in the #1990s, Disney bought TV-9 in Los Angeles and launched #the_Disney_afternoon ... a set of cartoons such as Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers, Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck. I often watched with some of my nephews and #sonTwo.
I'm not happy with #Disney these days, as they are too large, too monopolistic, and too copyright maximalist. But at the time, we somehow scraped up enough money to get Disneyland & Disney California Adventure season tickets for a year or two, and we went multiple times.

Picked up a copy of Dougherty and Robbins’ “Sed &Awk, 2nd Ed”.
I’m just at the beginning of it, but it *feels* old with all its 1990s references. (The content seems to be still accurate and useful, but the reference and examples feel like I found my old VB5 textbook.)

@sean Your quest to join the USAF helped me to speak up. When #sonOne joined the USNavy in the #1990s, I vehemently disagreed. As a result of that disagreement and his somewhat difficult teen years, we barely spoke for about twelve years.
Yesterday, I finally told him that the military benefited him (maturity, training & experience, a pattern of income) that he never would have gotten had he not chosen that path. I used these words: “I was wrong”.

@musicman I don't really have any #Java language thoughts. In the late #1990s and early #2000s, I enjoyed the courses I took which used Java (and also the courses which used C++, #Perl, #PHP; but I disliked #JavaScript, and really disliked #VBScript and #VB 5 / 6). But especially since taking this job 15 years ago, I've barely touched it.
