#GD1 went to her first concert. Weird Al, doing none of the parodies he is best known for. She had a great time and hopes to see another one soon.

Going to #videochat with #GS3 and #GS4 today and hopefully tomorrow as well. Tomorrow I will also attempt to videochat with #GD1 and #GD2, and will attempt to make up last weekend's missed chat with #A1, #A2, #A3.
(In case you're wondering, I'm not attempting to set up a chat this weekend with 24 year old #GS2 nor 26 year old #GS1. I will try to get in touch with GS1 for a chat some time in August, and try to have a voice call with GS2 later this year.)

Her 14 year old sister, #GD1, sent me a thank you later in the day. With teens, you never know whether they will respond, so it is appreciated.
-
#sonOne discussed the subject matter with both #GD1 and #GD2, then said they are free to read the book. No updates yet, but he expected the younger daughter to read it first.

#GD1's copy of Maus should arrive today. A previous order was marked "shipped", but never arrived. When I checked the buyer feedback, that seller (and others) had a sudden huge negative feedback around inability to deliver that book, despite marking it "shipped".
I believe most of them were drop-shipping and their supplier was out of stock. Rather than inform both buyers and sellers, I suspect the supplier just marked it shipped and hoped they'd get a new supply in soon enough to ship them before the cancellations started.

This weekend, I had my regular #videochat with #sonTwo, #GS3, #GS4. The younger child had missed his nap, so he had gone to bed early. He heard Grandpa's voice and started crying until they brought him out to see me.
He tried to give me his bottle, then raised his arms to say "pick me up". At one year old, he hasn't quite grasped that the person in the tablet screen cannot just step through the glass. He's quite sleepy, but I think he's going to resist sleep as long as he can.
The three year old was repeating back everything I said, then he showed me his Spiderman toy and his book. Spiderman talks when you pull the string, so he got distracted with that and forgot about Grandpa until time to say goodnight.
There must have been some TV show where a character speaks in a growling voice, because GS3 kept reverting to that voice.
I did not have this week's call with #sonOne, #GD1, and #GD2. We'll have to try for next weekend.

Earlier this year, I read about a book "Maus" that was being removed from a school district's curriculum because it depicted Nazi-ism's effect on one family too accurately. I ordered a copy for my 14 year old granddaughter. (This version, at least, is a graphical novel ... a book turned into a long comic book.)
It never arrived. In the process of inquiring, I concluded that the sellers (multiple) were relying on the publisher and the distributor to handle order fulfillment ... and the publisher was caught off-guard by the increased demand for the book. One seller offered to refund ... I'm going to take them up on the offer. The other seller kept to the "give it 10-14 days" shtick since mid-February. I just asked for a refund.
I still want #GD1 to have and to read that book. I'm just going to have to acquire it elsewhere.

Bought "1619" books for #sonOne and #sonTwo. And me. And my mom. Now #GD1 and #GD2 have read a related book. We're hoping to have a #videochat where we talk about some of the ideas and stories.

#TN school board bans Pulitzer prize winning graphic novel depicting the author's family's experiences during the #Holocaust because it contains "bad words" and nudity.
I hadn't heard of #Maus before, but now I have ordered a copy for #GD1 (age 14). It should arrive in about a month. I alerted #sonOne to preread it, so that he'll be ready for any questions.

I discovered 'Yo Gabba Gabba!" and Dancey Dance Time by accident about twelve years ago. I was heading to #GD1's 2nd birthday , and stopped at a store to ask what toy was popular with that age group. The employee pointed to a green striped character with horns. I bought it.
Months later, #sonOne found the show with that character in it.

#GD2 reports that the first box of gifts arrived early. She and #GD1 have already opened it and taken possession of the items.
She says they both like what they got. (I hope #sonOne explains that I did not spend $2K for a handbag, so the younger daughter does not expect me to send a similarly expensive item in a few years when she is that age.

I'm surprised it wasn't appealed. Even though the state capital is in Cole County, there's got to be a state supreme court.
In the meantime, I suspect that #GD1 and #GD2 will continue to be home schooled because of such idiocy. I know it is still a few years away, but I will recommend the same for #GS3 and #GS4 when they approach school age.
-
I should clarify that the two oldest boys ( #GS1, age 25; #GS2, age 23 ) and the oldest girl ( #GD1, age 14 ) are the only ones old enough for vaccination until now.

FDA approves Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for emergency use in ages 5-11. https://nu.federati.net/url/283342 [www fda gov]
#sonOne is happy to be able to get #GD2 vaccinated.
I just thought about it, but I don't know whether her older siblings #GS1 and #GS2 are vaccinated. It may be that only one ( #GD1 ) out of 9 grandkids is currently vaccinated.
-
#sonOne sent me a photo from 8 years ago. Me holding #GD2 (now age 9), while #GD1 (now age 14) clamors for her turn.
I’ve got to get back to their part of the country before those kiddos forget I exist.

Me, to #sonTwo: #sonOne doesn't know what to do about #GD1, because they aren't giving a remote learning option for her school and he doesn't want her bringing #COVID-19 home to #GD2 (whose school does have a remote learning option this year).
sonTwo: He could always try home schooling.
Me, laughing: He's part of the leftish group that has always opposed such things. I expect he'll end up doing that, but it will happen at the last minute.

#sonOne is trying to figure out what they’re going to do about school.
#GD2’s school is still giving them the option of remote learning, but #GD1’s school is not … and not enforcing masking and not upgrading the ventilation system to help remove microbes and viruses. As the younger daughter is too young to be vaccinated, he is not desirous of having the older daughter bring #COVID-19 home and infect her sister.
The disease itself is supposed to be milder with most younger patients, but there are reports of pretty serious post-COVID symptoms among under-10s.

Sent messages to sons asking to schedule short #videochat sessions tomorrow.
I normally have one with #sonOne and #GD1 and #GD2 (on rare occasions daughter-in-law pops in for a few minutes) Sunday afternoons, but recently, his work schedule has interfered.
I normally have them Fridays and Sundays with #sonTwo and #GS3 and #GS4 (sometimes daughter-in-law, but she's often busy), but we missed tonight's session.
Sessions with #Daddy_A, #A1, #A2, and #A3 are infrequent, and he often has device issues that prevent it. (That is, his iPhone and iPad don't display notifications or make sounds ... he even took the phone in for service; they couldn't correct it, so they replaced it.)
-
I can't do the school supplies thing this year, but I did find the wide Kindergarten pencils at #Target, so I bought a few for #A2. #A1 will get standard yellow No. 2 pencils.
#GD1 and #GD2 will also get a few pencils.

#Daddy_A reports that an item I purchased that was due to arrive between June 9 and July 6 arrived today.
The Dodgers outfits and books I sent for #GS3 and #GS4 should arrive at #sonTwo's house tomorrow.
Meanwhile, #GD1 has started reading Manga* books, so I asked #sonOne for guidelines on what to buy. He's going to talk with her before he gets back to me.
* English translations, obviously.
