#Gemini protocol aims to fit between #Gopher and #HTTP ... simple, modern, encrypted, private.
This looks interesting. I like gopher, but I'm bothered by:
- the list of item types (newer file types not on the list)
- lack of TLS
- lack of virtual (sub-) domain hosting
It looks like Gemini aims to fix all those things without becoming a complexity and privacy nightmare like the Web is. -
spelk (spelk)'s status on Wednesday, 17-Apr-2019 16:48:12 UTC spelk I cobbled together a guide of sorts for setting up your own free #Gopher hole on https://sdf.org
lynx gopher://sdf.org/1/users/spelk
or
gopher://sdf.org:70/users/spelk
Look under the "Muse" section of my spelkhole, its in there.
It should outline the basics of getting a user account, setting up a gopher space and building your first gophermap.
Hopefully it will help people who are curious try out gophering, and some may support #SDF's public access #UNIX server going forward.

Sehnsucht ? (sehnsucht)'s status on Thursday, 04-Apr-2019 05:15:26 UTC Sehnsucht ? Interesting minimalist Gopher server (and HTTP proxy) running on 9front/386 and built on a rc shell script; tons of useful links here:

Since they have several users, you may find some that get updated from time to time. -
INACTIVE (deadsuperhero)'s status on Monday, 05-Mar-2018 07:12:38 UTC INACTIVE Hey, #Gopher people. I've noticed that periodically this subject comes up in my stream, and it seems like people are actually building and doing things with it. What's interesting about it, and what's a neat thing that you've used it for?

This is the first post in series. Future posts are going to talk about #hypercard and the #BBS scene and #DOS software and more stuff about #Gopher and maybe some walkthroughs for specific vintage computers like the #tandy 102
