@fu I have not heard of #Status.im before. From a quick look, it reminds me of #Nostr, but #P2P instead of using relay servers.
(Last time I looked, Nostr did not have a decent #Android client, but I hear that the Damus #IOS client is great.)

#Apple and $EMPLOYER (and the MDM solution being used) are getting smarter. $EMPLOYER decided to download the Headspace app to the iPhone they issued me. For some reason, its presence is botheracious to me, so we were playing the install-delete-install-delete game for a while. Then I discovered that I could “pause” the installation while it is in progress and prevent it from completing.
Well, now, when there is an #iOS update, the #Headspace installation completes and I have to delete it, trigger a status check, so they see that it is missing, and then pause the resulting installation.

The stabbing / slashing occurred yesterday. The #Shoyu client for #iOS is cantankerous and took around 20 hours to post.

If you use #Safari on #MacOSX ( or any browser on #iOS 15 and #iPadOS 15 ... since they all use Safari under the covers ), your browser is able to leak information about you and your browsing. https://nu.federati.net/url/284756 [arstechnica com]

#Apple #iOS / #iPadOS 14.8, an emergency security update, is out.

#Facebook tried to license #NSO's #Pegasus spyware, so it could spy on #iOS users. https://www.cultofmac.com/698979/facebook-pegasus-nso-spyware-track-iphone-users/ [www cultofmac com]

Apparently, people are pretty upset about the new #Mastodon for #iOS app.
It is definitely much more limited than similar apps ... I think it reflect's Eugen's vision of what the mobile Mastodon experience should be like. There are other apps available, even if they all stink.
For what it does, it is probably one of the better apps, but there are plenty of limits, such as:
* no unlisted posts
* no local timeline
* no federated timeline
* shows the joinmastodon.org signup list, but does not permit browsing the local timelines to help with choosing an instance.
* bug where autofilled @ mentions end up in the form "@username@username@instance.tld .tld" (including that space before the repeated TLD extension)

I guess Syphon ( #Matrix client for #iOS ) got updated. I had to re-enter all my info. I don't know why they did it that way. I probably should have just deleted it and used the FluffyChat client instead.

Seriously deficient. I even took the time to go into the #iOS app store and give most of them one star.
-
#iOS gripe. With the spam calls multiple times per day, only once has there been a "reject" button. All other times, it is "slide to answer" with no possibility of rejecting the call.
Come on, #Apple. In these days where people get many fake calls per day (as in they appear to come from fake numbers, not the actual callers' phone numbers), this is something basic that every phone should display on every call it receives.

Apple's App Store had 78% profit margins last year https://nu.federati.net/url/281161 [apple slashdot org]
Though it is hard to feel any sympathy for #Epic_Games (being motivated by wanting to capture gamers in their own store, not to free #iOS users from captivity to Apple's store), I'm leaning toward wanting them to win their suit, just because #Apple and #Google exercise way too much control over what people can install on the devices they pay for.

A recent #Manyverse update for #iOS was broken. Version 0.2105.11 was released to fix it.

The #iPad Gen5 tablet installed #iOS 14.4.2 tonight. I was sure it would stay on 14.1.x or 14.2.x forever, because it wanted me to delete all my apps and data in order to update to 14.x. I guess 14.4.2 is smaller than prior updates.

Getting really annoyed by #Shoyu ( GS app for #iOS ) and its slow, unreliable posting. Sometimes, a post can take repeated sends ... 30 to 45 minutes of continually resending ... before it goes through.
I am pretty sure it was a #Twitter app that leaped over the wall when T announced #API restrictions meant to extinctify most Twitter clients.

Using the Syphon #Matrix client for #iOS.
It is still very early in its life, so it should improve over time.
There's a few things that need to improve:
* It is designed for iPhones, so it looks awkward on an iPad.
* After I set it up and logged in, there was an update. After the update, I had to set it up again. It didn't retain my login session or information.
* It doesn't pick your homeserver as the place to log into when you enter the normal "username:homeserver.tld" syntax. You have to click the magnifying glass icon and enter your (homeserver.tld).
These things can be fixed, and some likely will be fixed, as development continues.

I'm hearing that #Google and #Apple are removing the apps for the #Parler #socnet from the #Android PlayStore and the #iOS AppStore.
I'd argue that given their duopoly on mobile operating systems, the power to arbitrarily kick someone out is scary (regardless of how deserving Parler might be; I'm not even sure I've seen a screenshot of the site). I'd argue that this is evidence that the mobile OS and app store groups of both companies need to be split up, so that competition can come ... including strong competition for mobile app stores on each platform.
Again, Parler may deserve it, especially if their users used the socnet to organize their insurrection attempt. (Though I suspect many of them probably used odious #corpocentric sites like #Twitter or #Facebook, which are not being punished.)

Of course,it has other consequences, and honestly, if my phone was stolen, I'd want it to get a secure wipe. Search for "Brother Orange" in #DDG or #Google, and you'll see why.
#Android isn't the only one with such a misfeature. In organizations with #Apple #iOS devices, re-use after an employee leaves can be painful. Sometimes, after days or weeks of delay, Apple will inlock the devices for re-use, but sometimes, the org must buy a new phone.

And #Manyverse ( #SSB client for #iOS and #Android ) is suddenly picking up incoming posts, at least on the iPad. I'll check the other tablet later.

#iOS / #iPadOS 14.2 is out. It has lots of new emoji, plus 8 new wallpapers.
(One wonders whether that description ever persuades anyone that they _must_ update as soon as possible, so they can have more wallpapers.)

One of the most annoying things for me is that after the #iPad upgraded to #iOS 14.1, there’s a constantly-on, unblockable notification to set up #Apple_Pay. Sorry, #Apple. You got your X hundred dollars. You are not getting any more.
Looking forward to retiring this tablet and closing my AppleID account.
