I liked #DigitalOcean, and I really liked #Linode. In the case of Linode, my sole reason for leaving is that they wanted to autobill my credit card each month. As for DO, that was my main reason, but a secondary reason was that their resource limiter consistently killed database processes ( #MariaDB and #PostgreSQL ) ... I couldn’t even upgrade MariaDB directly. I would have to do a DB dump, uninstall, reinstall, import the DB; and I had to follow that process each time there was a software update for MariaDB.
I would much rather pay for a year at a time, then about a month before the next payment is due, I get an e-mail reminder that payment is due by X date at Y time in Z timezone.
But if you’re in a place where that payment plan works for you, both of them were great places to host things over the years. I liked Linode a little more than I liked Digital Ocean, but your experience could be the opposite.

Difficult to exploit vulnerabilities in #MySQL client https://osint.geekcq.com/2021/01/20/cve-2021-2006-mysql/ and https://osint.geekcq.com/2021/01/20/cve-2021-2007-mysql/
No word on whether the #MariaDB version of this software is also affected.

By the way, in case you missed the announcement, #LoadAverage is doing a big #DB migration ... from #MySQL / #MariaDB to #PostgreSQL. It is taking a while, and I'm sure that after the main move is complete, there will be several little details that have to be tweaked.

Is the #MySQL #JDBC mysql-connector-j driver very different from the #MariaDB version? I would expect that they try to stay pretty close to upstream, so that their software is easily inserted in place of #Oracle MySQL.

It's pretty demoralizing to never get any responses from anyone but @lnxw48a1, but I am nothing if not persistent.
I realize I could interact more and gain more followers and I could post more. Maybe I'll give Mastodon a shot a see if I get more interaction there. I don't think I've joined an instance but maybe I have.
Anyway...
My team is looking!

A good morning to you all. It is 10:15 PST on #Pi-day, and I have consumed my daily #YoCo ( #yogurt and #coffee ). #TZAG
Today, I’m going to try to get a little learning environment set up for #LAMP ( #Linux, #Apache, #MariaDB, #PHP ). The time is rapidly approaching when the current workyjob and I must part ways, and @amic does not yet make enough money ? to support me and my family members.
-
I think I should have had coffee (or "cofe" as some people say) with caffeine today. Maybe plain old half-caff. I'm a little tired and headachy this morning.
I am having my daily #YoCo ( #yogurt and #coffee ) and restoring a #MariaDB data dump.

@moonman If you're on #Digital_Ocean, my experience is that something about their droplets' default configuration hindered both #MySQL / #MariaDB and #PostgeSQL performance. A smaller resource #VPS on #Linode runs them much better than DO.
.
I may try one on #Vultr soon.

@musicman Does it have to be #MySQL, or is #MariaDB okay? https://downloads.mariadb.org/mariadb/repositories/

#MariaDB could use some cleanup on their learn page: https://mariadb.org/learn/ !sysadmin (and yeah, I get that sysadmins and dbas are not the same thing, but some sysadmins do need to know about MariaDB!)
