I remember one time I was working in #Missouri. I was at the hotel in the afternoon and the tornado sirens went off. Since I live in #SoCal, I have never seen a tornado. Naturally, I went outside to see whether I could see it. It passed well South of us, heading East, so I did not get to see it.
What else would you expect from a #CA resident in #MO?

#NOAA / #NWS weather alert: severe #t-storm warning for mid-Missouri for: Callaway County in central #Missouri until 22:15 CDT. At 21:32, a severe thunderstorm was located near Auxvasse, moving SE at 25MPH. 60MPH winds, nickel size hail.
Radar indicated.
Expect damage to roofs, siding, trees. Storm will be near Williamsburg around 21:50 CDT. Includes #I-70 between exits 144 and 161.
Alert contains the following verbiage: "Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure."
Fulton is not mentioned, but they are in the warning area. It looks like Columbia is just to the W of the line of storms. As always, if you are in the area, listen to NOAA weather radio alerts or the emergency alerts on your phone.

In several recent conversations, I’ve been comparing and contrasting the US economy of the #1970s with the US economy of the #2010s and #2020s. I’ve been hitting various places in sort of a scattershot in my quest for 1970s economic data, but now I think I have a base point for most of the data: https://libraryguides.missouri.edu/pricesandwages/1970-1979 [libraryguides missouri edu] the #Missouri University Library ? in Columbia, #MO.
Obviously, there will still be more detail available at the Bureau of Labor Statistics

#NOAA / #NWS issuing watches and warnings for severe #t-storms across much of #KS and #MO, including Kansas City ( #KCMO and #KCK ), Manhattan, Topeka, Leavenworth, Atkinson, St Joseph … #tornado watches for North Central Kansas across to the KC area … #flood warnings and severe thunderstorm watches in SE Kansas and SW Missouri.
I only get alerts for a defined area, so places outside of that area may also be affected.
If you are in #Kansas, #Missouri, or nearby states, pay attention to your weather alert radio’s alerts and your phone’s alerts.

Flooding reported over the roadway at #I-70 exit 124 in Columbia #MO. If you are travelling across the state of #Missouri today, be aware that the #t-storms and possible #tornado have brought some flooding with them (hopefully minor flooding that doesn’t cost anyone their life).
Naturally, they say “turn around, don’t drown”, but that might not be such a good idea on a major Interstate Highway.

I sometimes regret not trying Henry Weinhard's Private Reserve in the 1980s, when it was available in #SoCal. It was just that I've never been big on alcohol consumption ... even at 180+ pounds, half a bottle of beer is usually enough to put me to sleep*. I weighed a lot less back then.
* One hot Summer in #Missouri, when I was having trouble sleeping, I found out that I could build a tolerance after a while, so I didn't have any beer for almost a year.

Appears that the #Missouri governor's order falls short of what we see in other states. https://www.ky3.com/content/news/Missouri-to-ban-gatherings-of-more-than-10-people-568973441.html [ky3 com]

Looking at the states that had this law, I was surprised to find #Nebraska ( #NE ) and #Indiana ( #IN ). #Missouri ( #MO ) was not a surprise, because they had been a slave state.

#GS3 had a long day. He went to Washington and Cuba (towns in #Missouri) but no politicians came to negotiate. So now he’s tired and grumpy.

#NOAA / #NWS alerting that several more levees have failed in Howard County, #Missouri. Areas near Franklin / New Franklin / Rocheport #MO should prepare for flash floods.

#NOAA / #NWS alert: Flash flood warning for Howard County in central #MO. At 14:20 CDT, a levee failed near Hwy Z and Hwy 87. Affected: Franklin, New Franklin, Rocheport. Although #I-70 is not mentioned, it does pass near this area. Also not mentioned is the Katy Trail, but it is mostly adjacent to the River in that area, so it goes without saying that it may be dangerous. If you’re in Mid #Missouri, be prepared to move to higher ground.

Minor flooding is expected in #IA and #NE along the #Missouri River near Omaha / Council Bluffs. #NOAA / #NWS alerts issued.

#NOAA / #NWS has issued a flood watch (not a warning yet) for a huge area in SW and Mid #Missouri from Monday evening through Tuesday evenings. 26 counties, including the cities of Joplin, Springfield, Branson, Lebanon, Rolla.
Widespread areas of heavy rainfall, with totals of two to three inches. Mostly expecting flooding in low-lying areas near streams. A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
-
#NOAA / #NWS warning about flooding in #Missouri. Certain streams in areas near KC and Boonesville / Columbia have minor flooding. Low water crossings and low-lying areas & roads may be underwater.
-
#NOAA / #NWS issuing red flag / fire weather warnings for a fat diagonal stripe across E and SE #Kansas, W and SW #Missouri. I don't get alerts for #OK or #AR, but I presume that they don't stop at the state line.
Don't burn the place down before I get back.

Sermon today was 90-10. Taken from 2 Kings 5. We tend to ignore the 90% that is going right and focus on the 10% that isn't. Don't ignore what is wrong--work to fix it--but remember to celebrate and reinforce what is right.
Today's church service is also a sad transition. I've worked in Jefferson City ( #JCMO ) four of my five times working in #Missouri. This has been my favorite church in the entire country since 2009. However, I'm not expecting to return to this location again, so this was a permanent goodbye to a group of people I've intermittently interacted with for nine years, each time I came to #MO.
