I'm thinking that I'll find a couple of online #PHP / #MySQL / #LAMP courses. I have some ideas for a #Fediverse server and I'd like to try them out.
Depending on my skills, available time, and whether the projects' CoCs are acceptable, I would also like to contribute to both #GNU_Social and #Friendica. I know both projects can use a little additional momentum.

Difficult to exploit vulnerabilities in #MySQL client https://osint.geekcq.com/2021/01/20/cve-2021-2006-mysql/ and https://osint.geekcq.com/2021/01/20/cve-2021-2007-mysql/
No word on whether the #MariaDB version of this software is also affected.

By the way, in case you missed the announcement, #LoadAverage is doing a big #DB migration ... from #MySQL / #MariaDB to #PostgreSQL. It is taking a while, and I'm sure that after the main move is complete, there will be several little details that have to be tweaked.

Is the #MySQL #JDBC mysql-connector-j driver very different from the #MariaDB version? I would expect that they try to stay pretty close to upstream, so that their software is easily inserted in place of #Oracle MySQL.

@xrevan86 @clacke Years ago, #InnoDB was produced by an independent company, just as #Sleepycat (BerkeleyDB ... BDB engine) was. I don't know if it was possible to use InnoDB separately from #MySQL even then. #Oracle bought Sleepycat and then Inno, and finally #Sun.
I've been using it for somewhere around 20 years (+/-2 years), having encountered it in a college course (replacing Hughes #MiniSQL).

@musicman Oh, wow! I remember learning to install #Apache and #PHP from source 20+ years ago. Can't remember whether we actually compiled #MySQL or just extracted a precompiled tarball. On pre-RHEL #Red_Hat Linux and #FreeBSD.
.
Was fun, but upgrading could be tricky.

It's pretty demoralizing to never get any responses from anyone but @lnxw48a1, but I am nothing if not persistent.
I realize I could interact more and gain more followers and I could post more. Maybe I'll give Mastodon a shot a see if I get more interaction there. I don't think I've joined an instance but maybe I have.
Anyway...

That’s interesting. There’s a 3rd party #PHP - #MySQL connector library called #MeekroDB. http://meekro.com/
I have no opinion about it.
-
@moonman Which should be the default configuration for #MySQL, but isn't.
-
@moonman If you're on #Digital_Ocean, my experience is that something about their droplets' default configuration hindered both #MySQL / #MariaDB and #PostgeSQL performance. A smaller resource #VPS on #Linode runs them much better than DO.
.
I may try one on #Vultr soon.
-
One might think that given that start, I'd be good at using #MySQL. But other than one short-lived job, I have barely touched it outside of the classroom.

It was about 20 years ago that I was in a class about SQL at my local college. The syllabus explained that we would be using something called mini-SQL (mSQL) as our learning DBMS, but on the first day, the instructor announced that the campus technology instruction team had just returned from a training held by MySQL AB. We would be learning on an alpha version of #MySQL (I think it was what eventually became v. 4.0), while comparing it with a 3.x version, because 3.x was what we were likely to see in real use.
I doubt there are any "MySQL Certified Training Centers" anymore, but my college was one at the time.

@musicman Does it have to be #MySQL, or is #MariaDB okay? https://downloads.mariadb.org/mariadb/repositories/
