Getting a bunch of alerts from #NOAA / #NWS cancelling wind chill warnings & advisories across #KS, #NE, and #MO. Yay!
-
The cold event in the middle of the country (from at least #NE, #KS, and #MO to #OH and probably beyond) continues to march forward. Tonight, wind chills could be as low as -50F in some areas. Up to six inches of snow, and winds up to 50MPH.
This is potentially deadly weather, so if you're in an affected area, make sure you have food, fuel, water, blankets, warm clothing, and then stay inside with your heater running.
#NOAA / #NWS has been alerting about this for a few days to encourage people to prepare.

Today, #GS3 (age 3.5) came running in to wake me up and to ask if he could go with me on the plane to California.
This has been a tremendous trip. It turned out to be nothing like the early plans (eleven weeks in SW #MO instead of two weeks in #SW_MO plus 1 week each in #KCMO and #Omaha #NE), but this has been a needed bonding time with the youngest set of grandkids.

#Tornado warnings from Dikenson #KS to Atchison. Also NE of Emporia.
#NWS warning people not to wait until they see or hear a tornado.
Also severe #t-storm warnings in KS, #NE, #MO.

#NOAA / #NWS issuing #tornado and severe #t-storm warnings for SE #NE and SW #IA and central #KS. If you're in #Nebraska or #Iowa or #Kansas, be sure your phone has weather alerts turned on and buy a weather alert radio.
I did talk to #Daddy_A and Mike/Ami/Jade tonight and informed them that severe weather is heading their way. These were regularly scheduled calls, but I was able to talk about the weather (and about the Brooklyn subway shooting).
Colby is also in that area, but I do not have a regularly scheduled call with him.

From Central and Southern Kansas to the #KC area and Western Missouri are getting some active storms. Severe storm / #t-storms, #hail, 60MPH straight line #winds, heavy #rain, #flooding, plus at least one #tornado warning from #NOAA / #NWS. I also saw one for Southeast Nebraska.

Omaha #NE -- city declares apartment building unlivable, evicting tenants
What ever happened to keeping the landlord in the city jail until the property is repaired? Or at least helping the tenants get housing before shutting the building completely down?

Winter weather, Winter storm, and wind chill alerts for parts of #NE, #KS, #MO, #IL, #IA. The alerts I received go right up to the state borders of #OK and #AR, so I expect there are other alerts valid for those areas.
Includes snow, mixed precipitation, wind, ice, extreme cold (-30F / -34C in central Nebraska), with extreme wind chills being mostly across the Northern part of the area. #NOAA / #NWS has sent at least 20 alerts since 04:00 Eastern (03:00 Central). Weather begins this afternoon / evening and continues through Saturday, possibly into Sunday in some areas.
If you're in the middle of the US, take proper care. This weather can kill, either directly or by causing traffic collisions.

#NOAA / #NWS alerting for Winter storm, extreme cold in #NE and #IA. Up to 5 inches of snow could accumulate. Wind chills could be as low as -20F. Tomorrow evening through Saturday evening, with Eastern areas getting it later than Western areas.
I have not been to either place in Winter, so that may turn out to be picnic weather. But if the Weather Service sends alerts, it probably means what it says.

Looking at the #NOAA satellite view. There's a line of storms shooting from the SE corner of Nebraska, across the bottom of Iowa and top of Missouri, broadening out in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and starting to enter parts of Pennsylvania and New York. If you're in any of those areas, prepare for what looks like a pretty strong bunch of #t-storms.

When I worked in Nebraska, for some reason, all the hotels were full when I arrived. Except one, a run down and smelly mess across the street from https://corrections.nebraska.gov/facilities/nebraska-state-penitentiary
(Which I did not know until I was already there and checked in.) Once other places were no longer full, I quickly moved.

#NOAA / #NWS alerting for severe #T-storms across the Kansas City area and Southeast Nebraska. 60MPH to 75MPH wind gusts have been measured, so expect wind damage to roofs, windows, vehicles, trees.

I'm told there are #tornado warnings somewhere in the vicinity of Omaha and Lincoln #NE ... sirens have gone off.
-
Told #sonTwo to monitor temperature in #GS3's room and to bring him into their room if it gets too cool in there.
Wind chills expected to reach -5°F to -20°F across #KS, #MO, #IL, lower in #NE and #IA.

#Daddy_A was talking about the #snow in #NE and he said that some spots were deeper than he is tall. I suspect he's talking about piles where snowplows and similar equipment cleared off an area and piled the removed snow in one spot.
He also said it is very cold, even for a "frozen northland" state.

Snow in #NE tonight, rain and some minor flooding in #MO.
-
#Daddy_A hinted that if I'm ready to do so, I can move to #NE, sleep on their couch, and seek a local job. I told him plainly that I already have such an offer from #sonTwo, but that not causing them any stress is important.
-
It is 18:00 in #NE. I guess I'm not having a #videochat with those grandkids today. I'll try one of the ones in #MO.

The pinkish color of most of the as yet unprojected states indicates that they believe those states are leaning red, voting to support #Trump. Interestingly, the undecided district in #NE is a very light blue, leaning to support #Biden, while the undecided district in #ME is pinkish.
#AK is still pure white, as little polling or exit polling occurs there.
