I had your #VPN service, and you joined together with a company known for installing unwanted software on people’s computers and devices. Then, you and they kept it secret for months.
You are untrustworthy, and unrecommended. -

Andrew Lee’s name is not mentioned as the new #PIA owner in CNET’s 2017 article: https://nu.federati.net/url/279140 [www cnet com] … https://restoreprivacy.com/private-internet-access-kape-crossrider/ [restoreprivacy com] … this was why I abandoned an annual paid VPN account with PIA only partway through the year.
Kape Technologies (formerly Crossrider) was the purchaser then.
https://nu.federati.net/url/281207 [investors kape com; PDF file] tells us that Andrew Lee was one of the investors who sold PIA to Kape, and that he runs Kape’s North American operations -

That, coupled with their PIA's takeover by a shady company a year or two back, should probably have gotten the volunteers to prepare for the possibility of a takeover. -

I'm sure there are other places to get a more balanced view. This is just the first thing I've seen besides vague rumors. -

Now, suddenly, my spam folder is full of their marketing messages.
I don’t think they realize how desperate it makes them look. “We lost these customers, so let’s bug them and beg them until they come back.”
First of all, haven’t stayed at a hotel in more than a year, so I have no need for a VPN service right now. But even if I did, it wouldn’t be one owned by the infamous malware vendor Kape Technologies. -

Umm, yeah. As I recall the story, you were purchased by a shady malware vendor. I’m happy to stay away from you also. -

Today, I get a message from them telling me that they won't try to charge my (prepaid gift) card next week when the account actually expires.
Yeah, there's a reason why I do things that way. -

I should probably find another service _before_ I travel somewhere and need to use a hotel Wi-Fi network. -

I think it is time to find a new service. This one makes it difficukt to post, with sub-1Mbps down speeds on #hotel_Wi-Fi, cellphone hotspot, and other local Wi-Fi connections. I can post better by turning off the VPN, but on most of these networks, that's not acceptable. -

Part of it is the #hotel_Wi-Fi, but even on hotspot, recent speeds with #PIA #VPN are mostly under 1Mbps down/up. -

That means at least some of your uses will require a #VPN service. https://is.gd/gtvVNt (Out of that list, I've only used #PIA, but they used to be decent.)
