Finally, there's a Windows clone in progress called #ReactOS.
I do not claim that any of them, other than FreeDOS, are actually usable. -

That’s a huge improvement from a few years ago. -

This happened a few months back, but I just saw it today. -

I think mimicing #Facebook leads to #ReactOS syndrome: where you're chasing a moving target that has far more resources than you do, so you get farther behind every year. -

They are chasing a target (compatibility with the latest version of Windows) that moves faster than they can. -

Mostly because I knew it had been many years since any security patches were released, and it would be too easy to accidentally trigger some online activity that alerts potential attackers to this ancient and unprotected system's presence.
.
I could definitely see #WinNT's influence in #ReactOS. -

notklaatu (klaatu)'s status on Thursday, 07-Jun-2018 22:56:07 UTC notklaatu @ragazzonoioso I took you up on your dare. I figured the most likely candidate for adware from SF would be Windows, so I installed #ReactOS in a VM, downloaded and installed some .exe filles from #sourceforge, and I admit everything looked clean, vanilla, true to upstream.
There *are* a heck of a lot of ads (even with ublock on) on sourceforge.
Sourceforge like Github, as far as I know, isn't open. But it's a place that once had brand recognition and still does serve some stuff I like.
