Dan Fixes Coin-Ops (ifixcoinops)'s status on Wednesday, 26-Sep-2018 04:24:29 UTC Dan Fixes Coin-Ops When I first got on Mastodon I got followed by some #solarpunk people, and followed them back, and looked at their image posts and got the same feeling I got at the end of the Planet Earth 2 series, where David Attenborough was all "But we don't have to be so horrible to the environment, look at THIS" and showed us this lovely green city in Australia and I went "YEAH LET'S DO THAT THAT'S EFFIN' GORGEOUS." It was a weird emotion, one that felt kinda new and unfamili- HOPE, YEAH IT WAS HOPE

"now I have 16 terabytes of network attached storage, that uses no power at all when it's not in use, and automatically spins up on demand"

worst girl ?☠️ (xj9)'s status on Monday, 02-Apr-2018 06:19:29 UTC worst girl ?☠️ heropunch used to be a company. i co-founded it with a some friends a few years back. it started off with this really ambitious idea that we called "Infinite Automata" that heropunch was supposed to be an instance of.
https://www.heropunch.io/InfiniteAutomata
we made some decent money, but the org kind of fell apart after a year or so. pretty good (painful) learning experience.
after everything fell apart i thought i'd try it again from a different angle. i still agree with a lot of the ideas in the IA whitepaper, but this time around i'm starting by looking at the nuts and bolts that we need too make an independent society: resource management, communication, manufacturing, &c.
if we can make an open source blueprint for running your own homebrew autonomous life using renewable energy and salvaged parts, then (maybe) we'll have the right kind of community to start building an independent #solarpunk society.
