In a #MSTeams meeting for $EMPLOYER's #TechTeam.
They're grumbling about understaffing, but they refuse to fund and utilize their field workforce better.
I spoke up in the chat to tell them that they already have people with server management, cloud, programming, scripting, Linux, Windows server training & experience ... that they should use them.
It probably won't be long now.

Heard from another #TechTeam member at $EMPLOYER: “DOGECOIN went up so much that I made $12K”.
No, you didn’t. You haven’t made money until you sell it for more than you paid for it. It’s not like it has dividends or interest payments.

National conference on #Zoom for $EMPLOYER #TechTeam. Lots of tech and management babble. Rumors of staff cuts (denied, of course, but most of us have been off work all year).

Had an almost three hour phone conversation with S tonight. We talked about $EMPLOYER and #TechTeam stuff, about security background investigations (because most of the people from work that I'm in regular contact with have recently had them), and about personal stuff--health, career, family--and future plans.
Her dad and one of her brothers are in post #COVID-19 recovery. Another brother had another respiratory disease and is slowly recovering. One brother's divorce recently finalized and he's moving out of state to get away from his ex.
She didn't say anything about her kid tonight (I know he's in his middle or late 20s and lives halfway across the country, but he's still a kid in my eyes.)

Kenny called to tell me that $EMPLOYER is lending some employees to other agencies. Some of the people he talks to have been asked to volunteer for such assignments. Apparently they are not lending out #TechTeam members.

S called me to talk about some $EMPLOYER locations that are calling #TechTeam people to come work there.

Another member of $EMPLOYER #TechTeam told me his laptop just got upgraded to #Win10 1909. I hope HQ-IT thought about how to support those whose "upgrades" fail to complete, leaving an unusable device.

So, this week, I’ve talked with S, K, and Kenny. All are co-workers at $EMPLOYER and members of the #TechTeam.
* S has been off for somewhere near two years (family medical), is submitting her letter of resignation soon (she’s asked my help with composing it, but recent experience with my resume says she’s better off writing it alone).
* K has been off since last Summer, has used up his unemployment insurance benefits, and is looking outside the agency. He has not yet decided whether to quit even if he hasn’t found a replacement job.
* Kenny has been off for almost a year and a half (medical), is currently planning to stick around for another two years and then quit (assuming he can handle travel and work; if it was any other job, he’d retire)
Also talked with Mark, who works in a different department of the agency. His girlfriend found work at a local government agency in #SoCal that pays more and has benefits, so now she’s ready for him to find local work and buy her a ring.

I suspect some of that will be discussed at an upcoming conference call for #TechTeam members that are in certain employment categories.

Every month, national IT sends us a newsletter. One item in there are the commendations for exceptional performance. CEP is almost always given to HQ-IT. Recently they commended Cam, a Field-IT #TechTeam member that I met a few years ago. Well deserved. Cam is definitely not head-in-rump, like most headquarters people are.

Speaking of #TechTeam #Field_IT, I should download the newest revision of “Field IT Guide (Unofficial)” that the #PR branch published recently. This is a far better resource than any of $EMPLOYER’s official documents, and I’ve been sending it to our people nationwide.
This is very useful for coaching / training new folks, as well as helping old folks stay abreast of the newest procedures and equipment in the agency.

I’m definitely passing this one off to another #TechTeam member. I’m not going to spend my last two weeks immersed in this mess.
Security office is blocking certain files that our internal customers have been using for years. They, of course, are swarming local IT support desks asking for exemptions. SO is disinclined to grant them, so they’ll have to find another way to get their work done.

An hour into the office's holiday celebration. #TechTeam just now stopped working. Having chicken, rice, sweet potatoes, plaintains. And pie.
-
I'm going to the West building today to cover for another #TechTeam member. They usually keep it too chilly there because its previous tenant had lots of equipment heating the place up.
-
We're having two holiday gatherings (maybe more, but I have only been invited to two). One is is a lunch for #TechTeam members from all of $EMPLOYER's nearby facilities. The secord is an evening gathering for the department we report to. I'm planning to attend the first, but not the second.

@ball No, not a telemarketer. This S is a member of $EMPLOYER’s #TechTeam.
-
W, one of our local #TechTeam members was going to pick up an anniversary present for his wife. The store is 8 miles (more likely 8 kilometers) away, but it took 30 minutes to get there. Friday night #traffic_congestion is surprising in the San Juan #PR metro area, because it doesn't feel like nearly three million people live here. I know he's glad I covered his late shift.

Suggested another #TechTeam member run "file system check" because I couldn't remember scandisk.

Writing a witness statement. A “division director” from another office was exceptionally rude to a member of $EMPLOYER #TechTeam. It was about ten feet away from me, to the right rear, so I could not help but be a witness. i did have to communicate with #sonTwo and #faveNephew before I agreed to write my statement.

Chicken quesadillas. At a goodbye meal for two of our #TechTeam members. https://nu.federati.net/attachment/174171
