deadsuperhero (sean)'s status on Friday, 07-Feb-2020 06:53:53 UTC deadsuperhero @Kinetix @milan yeah...part of why I created #VidCommons was to provide full films that could be legally shared, due to Creative Commons and the Public Domain. It's not necessarily the best media out there, I'm not super interested in a good deal of it personally, but it's there to provide some kind of starting point for the Copyleft community.
I've been thinking more and more that it might be a cool idea to seek out creators and provide some kind of way to find each other, or some kind of covenant where we can agree to connect instances and build a small, intentional community. -

deadsuperhero (sean)'s status on Monday, 16-Dec-2019 16:02:26 UTC deadsuperhero @aktivismoEstasMiaLuo @cstanhope I wouldn't say that the org is falsely positioned, just ineffective at promoting and cultivating Copyleft media projects. The licenses themselves, IMO, are pretty good.
For me, the real failing is in having a good creator community or a decent curated directory. While it would be nice to see CC get behind that, it's not unreasonable to shift such efforts to its own project. Which is why I started #VidCommons. -
deadsuperhero (sean)'s status on Thursday, 14-Nov-2019 21:23:38 UTC deadsuperhero Hey, #PeerTube admins! How exactly did you get your instance listed on the JoinPeerTube site?
I'd love to get #VidCommons listed, to help viewer discovery, but currently it's not clear what the process is for getting added. -

INACTIVE (deadsuperhero)'s status on Monday, 08-Oct-2018 18:15:16 UTC INACTIVE 9 documentaries up so far, soon I will be adding number 10. :)
This is definitely a project that requires a lot of research. I'm sad to say that lot of commons-licensed work is not readily available on Wikipedia in the relevant sections, but I would guess that this may happen due to Wikipedia's occasionally aggressive requirements of "notability" for any particular entry.

INACTIVE (deadsuperhero)'s status on Friday, 05-Oct-2018 21:26:40 UTC INACTIVE Scouring the Internet for documentaries, and which copies are in the highest resolution, and what metadata I can attach to it.
So far, making pretty good progress. There's more in the pipeline: https://vidcommons.org/accounts/documentaries/videos

INACTIVE (deadsuperhero)'s status on Friday, 05-Oct-2018 00:19:24 UTC INACTIVE And so begins my new side project, #VidCommons
VidCommons.org is a #PeerTube instance dedicated to media released under Creative Commons licenses, as well as Public Domain videos.
The goal is to create a media portal full of stuff that's freely available to share, with the intent to maximize exposure for independent media released under CC-licenses, all within the fediverse.
