The "coronavirus is fake" people have a new talking point:
> Death rates haven't risen.
The problem with that is that it will be late next year before the 2020 numbers are finished. So what they're going by are estimates, often not even official ones, that will change as data comes in from all over the nation.
No, the #SARS-CoV-2 #coronavirus is real, and the disease it causes ( #COVID-19 or #2019-nCoV ) is real. There are some current restrictions that have not been shown to work, but some things do work:
* physical distancing -- 2 meters or 6 feet appears to be far enough apart that most larger virus-laden droplets fall to the ground
* face masks -- They reduce the amount of virus an infected person releases, but they also reduce the amount that one ingests. It does not have to be perfect. (Which was an issue early on, because official advice was to not wear masks. But by March, evidence was already coming in that masks help slow the spread.)
* hand-washing -- For years, we've heard that a common vector for colds and influenza is hands touching surfaces with viruses on them, then touching one's eyes or nose.
There are some others, but these three are well documented by now.

Assuming these #COVID-19 vaccines provide long-lived protection (if you remember, just 2-3 months ago, there were questions about how long until reinfection can happen again after being infected), there are nearly 8 billion people in the world, and we need to get high (80%+) rates of vaccination everywhere. Until every village in Zimbabwe is vaccinated, there is still a chance for #SARS-CoV-2 or a closely related #coronavirus to reach out and take a bunch of lives.

Reading some of the most recent US #Census "pulse" survey info.
9.1% of adults are either not current on the rent or mortgage payment, or have slight or no confidence in making their next payment on time.
Of those adults that are living in households that are not current on their rent or mortgage, 35.3% report eviction or foreclosure in the next two months is somewhat or very likely.
35.6% of adults live in households where it has been somewhat or very difficult to pay usual household expenses during the #coronavirus pandemic.
83.6% of adults in households with post-secondary educational plans had those plans cancelled or changed significantly this Fall.

I've seen some mention that there's a new #SARS-CoV-2 mutation in the UK that seems to be spreading rapidly. According to "BGR":{https://bgr.com/2020/12/15/coronavirus-mutation-uk-strain/}, there's no indication the strain causes deadlier #COVID-19 than other strains, or that the new vaccines won't work against it.

Basically, "Event201":{https://www.centerforhealthsecurity.org/event201/} was a tabletop exercise about what would need to happen to respond to a severe #coronavirus pandemic held only months before the #COVID-19 outbreak become known. The exercise was based on something far deadlier than #SARS-CoV-2, and they want to make it clear, they did not predict this outbreak nor claim that it would kill 65 million people.
