@vegos That makes sense. I did see an article where they found traces of #SARS-Cov-2 in 2019-November sewer samples from major cities worldwide, so #COVID-19 had to be spreading since at least 2019-October.

Los Angeles Times columnist: The #COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that it is time to treat high-speed Internet access as a utility. https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2020-10-23/coronavirus-internet-is-a-utility [www latimes com]
He’s right, but we’ve failed to regulate existing utilities strenuously enough. Just changing the words on a form somewhere is not enough. We need tough and thorough oversight of “last mile” communication and information service providers (telephone, Internet), including geographical restrictions, restrictions on the kinds of businesses the same parent company can operate, restrictions on what services the carriers can directly offer (to prevent them misusing their privileged gateway positions cut off or interfere with services offered by competing entities.

There are varying time estimates for post-infection immunity, ranging from under three months to almost a year. They haven't had a year to test yet, so no one knows for sure how long any vaccine would protect against #COVID-19 infections, nor even whether it would offer make infections less severe after it stopped providing complete protection.
It is just too early to know.

@mangeurdenuage Because bars and other night life spots are thought to be major disease spreading points for #COVID-19. By restricting who can be out after 21:00, it is thought that they'll slow the spread.

Big Pharma is paying little or nothing of the costs of developing vaccines for #COVID-19, but will reap the profits AND claim patents. Those patents should belong to national governments that funded the research (under "work for hire").

Not that over 200K deaths this year attributable to #COVID-19 in the US is anything to celebrate. A small number of those deaths are people related to me, so I don’t celebrate it at all.
However, I think that we look at the 200K deaths for a nation with 330M people in it and compare it with nations that have a fraction of the number of people. Of course we’re going to have more infections and more deaths than they are.
The only way I can see for our numbers to be significantly lower would have been for all 50 state governors plus territorial governors and the DC mayor to have simultaneous “no leaving your home for any reason on pain of gunshot” and “no inbound or outbound travel allowed” policies for a month or so. As soon as you have variations in the time period and strictness, or as soon as you allow travel between regions and nations, you make the lockdowns less effective.
I say this because the federal authorities used require state and territorial governors to take charge of the efforts and limit the feds to assisting them.
I don’t mean to say that Trump is not an idiot, nor that his administration couldn’t have done a better job. They could and should have, but even if we had another president, state-level decisions and disobedience by “freedumb” people are the primary reasons that so many people in the US have been infected and so many have died.
