#Los_Angeles County and other parts of #SoCal now seeing most #COVID-19 cases in overcrowded areas where Latino laborers live. https://nu.federati.net/url/273719 [www latimes com]
SGV (San Gabriel Valley), Pomona Valley, Southeast Los Angeles County are among those areas.

"Two new studies, though from different parts of the world, have arrived at the same conclusion: that young children not only transmit SARS-CoV-2 efficiently, but may be major drivers of the pandemic as well." -- https://nu.federati.net/url/273716 [www forbes com]
Two studies: Young children possibly key to spreading #SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes #COVID-19. Most of those kids will have few symptoms if any, but besides spreading from child to child in the classroom, each child comes home to a family and may spread the disease to people who are more likely to exhibit a more severe form of the illness.
Maybe reopening the overcrowded germ factories known as schools is premature after all.

Waiting to hear back from S about the conditions in the US state of #Georgia. If you have not been paying attention, the governor of #GA sued the mayor of #Atlanta over an order requiring masks.
Some schools in GA reopened this week, and at least one classroom's students and teacher are now on self-isolation after a 2nd grader was discovered to be infected with #COVID-19.
A high school student was suspended after posting a photo of a crowded hallway (no distancing!) full of students without masks, and the principal used the public address system to threaten the other students with the same.

“In my state there are more than 100 cases per day, it seems that it has decreased a little. At the national level, we have already exceeded 450,000 infections and 50,000 deaths. The situation is quite tense.”

More than 80% of Americans live in counties where they can expect at least one #COVID-19 infected student to show up in the first week of school. This according to a study by Univ of #TX at Austin.

@clacke Contrasts #Hong_Kong in 2003 responding to #SARS with #Sweden in 2020 responding to #COVID-19.
Admittedly, I was barely even aware of SARS at the time (and completely missed MERS a few years later). But at the time, I was working full time, attending a college and a university, teaching a class at church, and trying to work out custody of #sonTwo. I was running full tilt for around 20 hours a day, drinking around 4 twelve-cup pots of coffee each day.
I'm really surprised I remember those years at all.

I would be a lot more open to undoing a lot of the lockdowns if the people promoting it were willing to do what is required:
1--personal responsibility: the things we're told every day ... wash hands frequently, mask up if we go out, avoid getting closer than 6 feet / 2 meters from other people;
2--corporate: restructure workplace and processes to reduce the spread of disease, allow workers that suspect themselves to be sick or COVID-exposed to take time off without penalty;
3--government: financial support for people who are off work due to #COVID-19, enforceable right to pursue class-action lawsuits against companies that violate (2) above.
4--political: get the slimy #pollies' dirty hands off of the nation's disease response and prevention process
But it seems that every #anti-lockdown person I see or hear is also an #anti-masker who wants company managers to be able to force sick workers to come in anyway.

Q: Are more people committing suicide due to #COVID-19 related lockdowns and job losses?
A: There is no way to tell for a few years. We do not know and we can not know until final figures are in and we're looking back at this time period.

@musicman Yeah, once #hydroxychloroquine got politicized, everyone's brains fell out. A few (since refuted) studies said it was too dangerous to even study, others said it has a mild positive effect on outcomes or no effect on outcomes, and everyone rushes to acclaim or condemn it right away.
Get the politics out of the way and let the medical scientists do their job. It will take a while, but they will find multiple treatments which can be effective against #COVID-19.

Men more than women are likely to die from COVID-19, and the elderly fare the worst. One of my brothers works in PubHealth. The non-public #COVID-19 numbers he sees must be quite a bit higher than what the public sees, because he is really serious about not catching it himself and not passing it on unknowingly. I'm serious about it myself, but I did not ever disinfect vegetables after I bring them home.
