Discovered that my #Kubuntu laptop was still on version 20.04 LTS. I’m currently running the updater to bring it up to 22.04 LTS.
I’m tempted to reinstall it with #Devuan, but I will wait to see what #Ubuntu has done to it first.

I had an opportunity to look for #Tenacity in both #Devuan and #Ubuntu / #Kubuntu ... not there yet. I still see #Audacity, and wonder now whether it contains some of the user-hostile changes that led to Tenacity and #Saucedacity forking in the first place.

After almost two months of work, I found a GNU+Linux installer that would work on the new laptop. I'm currently replacing a recalcitrant and stubbornly anti-user #Win10 OS with #Devuan. Afterward, I'll figure out whether I'll need a #Wi-Fi dongle.

My main laptop is running Kubuntu 20.04, but rather than upgrade to 22.04, I think I want to wipe it and install the latest Devuan instead. I want to default to #Devuan, with an occasional #Debian (or #Ubuntu family, or #Linux_Mint) then use other distros on an as needed basis.
I have one computer at home that runs #NixOS and one that runs #OpenSuse. I'm likely to keep the SuSE machine running that software, but NixOS is too different and too bleeding edge for someone who regularly leaves home for a year.

Downloading #Devuan, #Mageia, #AlmaLinux, #RockyLinux. I guess there will be some reconfiguring in my future.

Now that I have an ending date for this assignment, I'm inclined to wait until I get back to ::1 before I back up and reinstall my main laptop. (Moving from #Kubuntu to #Devuan)

My current main laptop runs #Kubuntu 20.04 LTS. The #systemd resolver seems to have problems resolving on #hotel_inet ... everything is fine once it gets past the login page and I can start the #VPN, but until then, it is dicey.
I’m thinking that I might install the latest #Devuan in its place and skip religiously-inspired choices like replacing proven DNS clients with one that is integrated into the ever-famished, all-devouring System Daemon.

Prepping a flash drive and a DVD of #CentOS 8.2 to send to #sonTwo. I should probably also send #Debian or #Devuan or #Ubuntu, but if he gets the first server running, that's fine for now.

On the laptop upgrade project: The #Kubuntu machine is “in process”. The #Debian machine updated from 9 (Stretch?) to 10.5 (Buster?). The #NixOS and the #Fedora machine are in progress. The OpenSuse machine has not been started. The #Devuan machine ran out of disk space, so I’ll redo it from scratch.

I’ve had the #Debian and #Devuan machines off because of the heat, but since I’m reinstalling Kubuntu on the laptop, I decided to go through and see which ones need major updates and run them.
The Debian machine is upgrading to from 9 (Stretch) to 10 (Buster). The Devuan machine is upgrading from 2.x (Ascii) to 3.x (Beowulf). After they finish, I’ll look at the #Fedora and #OpenSuse machines.

I really do wish people would refer to #Debian and #Ubuntu and #Devuan (and their derivatives) releases by their version numbers instead of their nicks. If necessary, put the nick in a parenthetical. I can figure out that version 10 is newer than version 9, and that 20.04 is newer than 18.04, but what the heck does a "Ravenous Rabbit" nick tell me?
-
I still haven't walked over to the #Fedora machine to look at timezonectl. That does not exist on my #Debian / #Devuan / #Ubuntu machines.
-
@1iceloops123 Yes, #Debian / #Devuan is easy, almost as easy as #Ubuntu or #LinuxMint, but it seems more reliable.

Devuan ASCII 2.1 released. https://devuan.org/os/debian-fork/ascii-point-release-announce-112119

@walley I think they will, at least for a little while.
But what #Devuan should really be doing is saying “We’re sorry for being stupid and we promise that nothing like this will ever happen again.”

"Again and to clarify once and for all: this was just an April fool. No machine was compromised. No content was moved, deleted, or tampered with in any way. Noone got access to the Devuan infra. No package or mirror was affected.
I apologise if somebody thought the joke stretched a bit too far: I am responsible for that. I thought all the clues were clear enough, but apparently they were not and some people got too stressed about it. I am sincerely sorry about that."

@alpacaherder I don't like it either. I have a laptop with a fairly new* #Devuan install that is now set for a full wipe and install with #Debian.
.
* New enough that there's nothing on it but the install itself.

One lesson we can learn from #Devuan is to stop playing pranks. Regardless of whether this is real or memorex, a lot of people are rightly concerned about the OS and software installed on their computers right now. And if it is a prank, they’ll be upset. ?
(Though if it was me, I’d take the sites offline if this is a real penetration, especially the ISO/IMG downloads and the package archives.)
-
@kai Actually, I have both #Devuan and #Gentoo at home. I just haven't been there in a while.

It is still easier for me to check https://packages.debian.org/jessie/httpd/ than to use #apt / #aptitude to find out what version of Apache is available. I guess that means I need to spend more time with #Debian / #Devuan CLI and less time with the web.
