Wonderful hourlong call with #sonOne. Today we discussed:
* Sega Genesis / Aladdin / modern clone consoles
* Nintendo Entertainment System / modern clone consoles
* YouTube channels and podcasts
* Building gaming PCs
* Family stuff ( #lazyNephew, #sonTwo, #GD1, #GS1, and the almost-member @mike )
* Job stuff
* Riding (bicycles and motorcycles)
Lots of pauses today, and the granddaughters were still asleep, so I did not get to say hi to them. I decided not to leave any #blue_pawprint s, so he won't know I'm replacing his #PS4 until it arrives Saturday.
-
@mike This one is going to #sonOne's house. #GD1 and #GD2 are also going to get to play with the Etch-A-Sketch. I'll have to let him know something is coming, because #GS1 will need to come out of the bedroom and be ready to bring the items inside.
-
#GS1 and #GS2 are still half-asleep, but they did tell me that they *love* their #2DS handhelds.
-
Discovered that I had been sending texts to #GS1's old number (the one I paid for five years), even though he's had a different number since #sonOne took over his phone late last year. I wondered why he wasn't responding. Now I know.
-
I sent #GS1 a Steam code as a belated 22nd birthday present. I did not send anything to #GS2 for his 20th because I don't have contact info and don't know whether his current living arrangements allow him access to electronics.
-
SMS from 22 year old #GS1: he still uses Steam a lot. So I'll send him a code for his birthday. No answer to my question about whether 20 year old #GS2 still uses it. (The family member where 2nd grandson lives used to have a strict 30 minute daily cap on electronics.)
-
@mike I need to remember to send #GS1 a Steam code. That's the only thing I know he'll use.
.
#sonOne says I should get an account just so I can message the grandson on a channel he'll pay attention to.
-
I completely forgot #GS1's 22nd birthday last week. I should text him and tell him I'm sorry. I should also have him relay 20th birthday greetings to #GS2 (some time in the next week, but I can't remember which day).
-
Glad we have unlimited #SMS on our plan. As a family, we send about 1,800 text messages per month. Note: this is _after_ #sonOne took over #GS1's phone.
-
I will be heading to #sonOne's home later today. They've moved, so this will be my first time entering their new dwelling. #GS1 (age 21), #GD1 (age 10), #GD2 (age 6) each will receive inexpensive #Android tablets. #sonOne will receive a !rpi 3 and a !raspberrypi 0. His wife will receive a Chromebook.
There are also books for the kids, and a "build your own computer from a Raspberry Pi" kit I bought as a father-daughter project.
Yes, I way overspent.
-
Got these for #GS1 and #GD2. 220 built in games, portable or connect to TV. Not expecting a home run, but maybe a walk. https://nu.federati.net/attachment/89201
-
@awg Not sure about your country, but in the US, I go to #GameStop a few times a year to buy a Steam code for #GS1.
-
#Shopping: #GD1 gets a 7-inch tablet; #GD2 gets an educational tablet (PBSKids); #GS1 gets an 8-inch tablet. #sonOne gets a !raspi 3 and a !raspberrypi 0. I still need to find something for his wife. #sonTwo and his wife get some help with their bills.
-
After six years, #GS1's phone is no longer my financial responsibility.
-
The #hotspot's bandwidth is much better than #hotel_wi-fi, but capped at 4GB every 60 days. Still tempted to videochat with #GS1 and #Little_Boy_A today.
-
Should get dressed and head over to the mall. I need to find birthday stuff for #sonOne, plus stuff for #GS1, #GD1, #GD2.
-
So it looks like #sonOne will take over his son's cell phone in a month or two. I love #GS1, but it does bother me (and his uncle, #sonTwo) that he rarely communicates with me despite me paying for his phone for the last six years.
-
The conversation begins. #sonOne's employer has a discount agreement with a cell provider. He's willing to take over #GS1's phone bill. He offered to take over mine, but I reminded him that my bill bundles other family members including #sonTwo and his wife.
-
#GS1 is far too passive. I'm going to have to push this to #sonOne for action.
-
@1iceloops123 I have been supporting Valve / Steam, because I buy $25 gifts for #GS1 at least 2-3 times per year. (I stopped buying them for #GS2 because he's staying with relatives who cap electronics use at 30 minutes / day.)
