Newest grandchild pic: #GS3 with a proud grin, holding a toad that he caught. Hopefully, he released the animal unharmed.

S called last night to tell me about the strange requirements of her current assignment. We were on the phone two hours.
This was just after a #videochat where #GS3 picked one of the (identical) walkie talkies and declared "that's mine!", explaining that "it's the best!" when asked why #GS4 could not play with it bit could play with the other one.

@simsa04 #GS3 is 3.5 years old.

Going to #videochat with #GS3 and #GS4 today and hopefully tomorrow as well. Tomorrow I will also attempt to videochat with #GD1 and #GD2, and will attempt to make up last weekend's missed chat with #A1, #A2, #A3.
(In case you're wondering, I'm not attempting to set up a chat this weekend with 24 year old #GS2 nor 26 year old #GS1. I will try to get in touch with GS1 for a chat some time in August, and try to have a voice call with GS2 later this year.)

Got https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097HL621T for #A1, #A2, #A3. So far, I'm hearing that they really like them and use them constantly.
#GS3 and #GS4 are a little younger, so probably too young to get much out of walkie talkies, but I found a pair with Star Wars / Baby Yoda markings ... they like that show, so I got them their own set.

#sonTwo put the boys on #videochat yesterday after they had visited a pick-your-own farm. #GS4 (age 1) ate everything he picked, while #GS3 (age 3) filled the bucket.
They love fruit.
During the chat, GS3 showed me his new monster truck toy (a little bigger than a Hot Wheels toy). GS4 was eating a sandwich and kept calling me "Dadda" and "Papa", then (after sonTwo corrected him) he'd call me "Gan'pa" before starting over with Dadda. He ate about half the sandwich before he held it too low and it became dog food.
The new puppy is teething, so they need to have lots of chew toys to stick in front of it whenever it tries to chew something it shouldn't chew. Hopefully, this time they can weather the storm long enough to get the doggy past that stage. A prior puppy's chewing got so bad that they took it to sonTwo's in-laws because it even tried to chew on GS3.
The existing dog has learned to escape from human children when it wants a little rest, but the doggy child goes into the backyard when the older dog goes out.

I ordered some baby gates. #GS3 is opening doors and getting in places that it is best if he doesn't.
Moving with a 3 year old and a 1 year old sounds like an interesting experience. The prior house had been child proofed before he was born. With this one, they are still installing the special latches on cabinet doors, special electrical outlets, special door handle covers that require hand strength*, and so on.
* When his cousin #GS2 (now 24) was 10, he still did not have a strong enough grip to open doors with those handle covers. I remember having to open doors for him.

#sonTwo reports that #GS3 has now figured out how to unlock and open the front door. He went outside into the (currently unfenced) front yard. The dog went out with him, so he was protected from untrusted adults, but the dog won't keep him out of the street.
They're getting a chain lock to prevent him from getting out and will be calling a fencing company soon. I also suggested putting in another baby gate.

#sonTwo and his wife took the boys to a little carnival thing. Being 3 and 1, the primary thing they let them do was go into toddler bounce rooms. #GS3's bounce room had little obstacles and he got to meet some new friends, so he tried to hide when it was time to leave.
#GS4's bounce room had other 1 and 2 year olds, but they did not interact with each other.

Daughter-in-law: Who is that?
#GS3: Piggo!
He really likes this book. He’s jumping up and down, telling the story, and describing the pictures (as much as any 3year old gets descriptive).
-
#GS4 had his big grin in today's #videochat. #GS3 told me about his favorite book, Piggie and Elephant Biggie, but he did not read it to me today.
-
#GS3 discovered a book he really likes. He is starting to memorize parts of the character dialogue. He says the parts with excitement, jumping up and down.
-
#GS3 has been watching Spiderman. He was explaining the Red Spiderman and the Black Spiderman to me. I thought he meant Venom, but apparently, there is a storyline where his spidersuit is black.
-
#sonTwo took the boys to a place where you can pick your own strawberries. #GS3 really enjoyed filling the basket. #GS4 ate everything he picked.
-
Original plan was to buy a jersey for 3 year old #GS3, but I think I'll wait and get Dodgers so he learns the right team from the beginning.
-
#GS3 and #GS4 recorded video messages. We skipped our normal #videochat because the other grandparents are visiting.
-
Got a full hour of #videochat with #GS3 and 45 minutes with #GS4 tonight. Their other grandparents will be visiting for the next couple of weeks, so we will take a break.
The younger one is thrilled with a book 📕 that has places to feel dinosaurs. Not that anyone knows what a dinosaur 🦕’s skin felt like. The older one is pushing buttons on a talking, singing electronic toy.
I told them (and #sonTwo) that the only career that will always have jobs is plumbing, but that I will try to prepare them as much as I can for the things I know.
I also mentioned that their cousin #A1 is getting a micro:Bit and a couple of projects for it.
-
I passed a Barnes and Noble store, so I went in and discovered that there is another “Cat Kid Comic Club” book. I bought copies for #A1 and #GS3 (none for #GD2 because she’s currently only reading “Naruto” books).

@clacke@libranet.de Your son may or may not be too old to enjoy this, but #GS3 (age 3 years) loves it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octonauts:_Above_%26_Beyond
