Also #weather:
#NOAA / #NWS issuing Winter storm watches from North Central #KS across Northern #MO, and into #IL starting tonight and going until at least noon CST tomorrow. Expect snow, ice, rain, wind and expect slippery road conditions.
In #SoCal, Winter weather advisory for the mountains of #San_Bernardino and #Riverside counties. Overnight, 2-4 inches of snow (6 inches in isolated spots) above 5,500 feet and winds 25-35MPH, with gusts up to 55MPH from 18:00 PST until 04:00. Expect poor visibility due to fog and blowing snow.

Winter storm watches for portions of #KS, #MO, #IL from tomorrow (FRI 2020-01-10) through Saturday (2020-01-11). Mixed precipitation (snow and rain / ice) expected, with some areas getting up to 3-5 inches of snow, 0.2 inch of ice, possible flash floods.
This does not mean that other states near these won't have any issues. I only get alerts for parts of KS and MO ... and occasionally any state that gets weather spillover from those two.
#NOAA / #NWS (Check https://www.weather.gov/ or your favorite #weather site for more info.)
-
#NOAA / #NWS has cancelled the #tornado watches for SW #MO, mid MO, and the Quincy #IL / Hannibal MO areas.
-
#NOAA / #NWS has declared #tornado watches over a broad part of #MO, from the SW corner across through #JCMO, and on to areas from Quincy, #IL, and Hannibal, MO, to the outskirts of the #St_Louis metro.
A watch means bad weather is possible. It does not mean said weather is imminent or certain.

Hmm. I think there should be a chart somewhere that takes https://www2.illinois.gov/idol/Laws-Rules/FLS/Documents/MinimumWageHistoricRates.pdf [Illinois\.gov] and compares it against the Consumer Price Index for the state. I see someone complaining about #IL #minwage increasing, but if the wage has not kept pace with price inflation, then it should have already been increased.

Mark called to tell me the office in #IL might call if I leave the #CA assignment this month. But I can't afford an income interruption right now.

The various levee breaches in #IL, #MO, #AR, and other states have had one positive effect: the water levels on the Mississippi River are not rising as fast or high as predicted. USACE has not yet opened the Morganza spillway, because #Baton_Rouge and #New_Orleans, #LA, are less likely to be flooded.
-
If you are in one of the states with flooding, two things you should do:
(1) make sure everyone in your dwelling is current on their vaccinations; and
(2) make sure you have a couple of days worth of bottled water, in case your local water processing / filtration plant is overwhelmed by the floodwaters.
Applies (at least) in parts of #MN #ND #SD #NE #MO #IA #KS #IL #TN #AR #MS #LA

#NOAA / #NWS is alerting again. Minor to moderate flooding along nearly every stream, creek, river in #KS and #MO, with a few in major flood stage.
Also, the Mississippi River is flooded from southern #IL to northern #LA, but it doesn’t seem to be a big event yet.

#NOAA / #NWS advising about possible slippery roads tonight and tomorrow morning due to snow and ice across #KS, #MO, #IL. https://inws.ncep.noaa.gov/a/a.php?i=30669493

Major power outage in the US state of #WA, minor outages in #IL and #IN.
Kitsap county has 39% of customers out of power.
-
I’m marveling at the wind chills. -20F, -25F, -30F, even -40F across #KS, #MO, #NE, #IA, #IL in areas where I’ve never heard of such temperatures before.
-
#NOAA / #NWS continuing to warn (about 40 since yesterday) about minor flooding near streams and in low-lying areas of #MO. Since this is so widespread, I'm sure the easternmost portions of #KS, the northwestern corner of #AR, and portions of #IL across from Hannibal down to St Louis are having some of the same things.
If you're in the middle of the US, just remember not to try to cross flooded areas, whether walking or driving.
-
#NOAA / #NWS warning about minor flooding along streams and in low-lying areas of SW #MO, S Central MO, mid-MO, and NE MO. From Hannibal to Joplin and Springfield and West Plains. 1-3 inches of rain have fallen across the area. Unmentioned: adjacent areas, such as parts of #IL, #KS, #AR, which may get some overlap from this storm system.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wabash_Valley_Seismic_Zone
I am looking up information about the New Madrid Seismic Zone ( #NMSZ ) / New Madrid Fault Line ( #NMFL ) and the possibly related Wabash Valley Seismic Zone ( #WVSZ ). I remember reading that it was a failed continent-splitting rift and thinking that it went southward into Louisiana and Mississippi, but apparently, it doesn’t.
#IL #MO #AR #TN — NMSZ is in these states

#NOAA /#NWS alerts continuing for severe #t-storms, heavy rain, flooding across my watched areas of #KS and #MO. 47 alerts in the past 24 hours and still going. Low-lying areas, areas near streams/rivers, there were even tornado warnings.
.
There's a stripe from #OK to #WI (including parts of KS, MO, the very NW corner of #AR, the very SE corner of #NE, eastern #IA, western #IL, parts of #MN) where floods are likely over the next few days.
-
#NOAA / #NWS is still warning about flooding near rivers and streams in #KS and especially #MO. They've sent 37 alerts by SMS and e-mail in the last 24 hours. Some of it may be related to former tropical depression Gordon, but there was already a string of storms heading Northeast from #TX through parts of KS and MO and #IL and #IN and #OH.
-
The remnants of former tropical storm Gordon are now an extratropical low, currently over #IL. #NOAA WPC. https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/
Storm rain totals
St Louis airport: 7.15 inches
Indianapolis: 5.10 inches
Cape Girardeau: 3.05
