Good morning and #TZAG. I’m halfway through today’s #YoCo ( #yogurt and #coffee ).
To conserve funds, I’ve reduced the amount of #yoghurt by half. I’m also reducing the coffee level and going completely decaf for health and personal well-being reasons.
Anyway, today’s goals: (1) call or videochat with my 8 year old granddaughter #GD2 and videochat with my almost 1 year old grandson #GS3. I may also attempt calls or chats with #GD1 (age 12) and #Little_Boy_A (age 6) / #Little_Boy_A2 (age 3) / #Little_Girl_A3. (2) Fire up the #PS4 and the #Switch and play some games.

My friend and co-worker asked me whether #GS3 is my favorite grandchild yet.
I think I have to admit that he is one of my eight favorite grandchildren. But yes, he's right at the top of the list, along with #GD2. #GD1 is right behind them, only because at age 12, she shows a little less interest in communicating with granddad than she once did. #Little_Boy_A (age 6) is also right behind him, only because his dad doesn't put him on the phone or in our videochats often enough (which is also why I'm not as close to his younger brother and sister ... I just don't get enough contact with them).

@guizzy The show was playing at Burger King one time when I went there for lunch.
I did not see anything wrong with it. But then again, I did used to watch lots of Thomas the Tank Engine with #Little_Boy_A.

I'm an equal opportunity nicknamer.
#sonOne (age 42) was still called "Diaper Butt" long after he outgrew that nickname, and still gets it on his birthday.
#Daddy_A (age 30) still gets called by his (now embarrassing) childhood nickname that he outgrew around age 10-12.
Now, #Little_Boy_A (age 6) retains his old nick.

#GD1 and #GD2 return to school tomorrow. #Little_Boy_A returns Tuesday.

Wut? I used to watch Thomas the Tank Engine with #Little_Boy_A when he was younger. There was nothing I saw that was fascist or any other kind of political extremist. Unless "do your job the best that you can" is a fascist message.
-
@amic Uh, really? I think I bought that for #Little_Boy_A.
-
I really do enjoy these weekly videochats with #sonTwo and his wife and #GS3. It isn’t quite the same as when #Little_Boy_A was that age, because #Daddy_A and family were right around the corner and I saw him in person multiple times each week, but it is still helping us attach.

Oh, #Little_Boy_A had a meltdown because his brother got Spiderman pajamas for his third birthday (and the older boy got none). They had to send him to bed early. I’m still hoping there’s a picture or two of the grandkids together before that.
-
First day of first grade (a few days ago) pictures came today! #Little_Boy_A looking so grown up. He’s had a little growth spurt, so he’s again taller than his younger brother (almost three years old).
.
Also, he’s sick. I guess his siblings aren’t enough of a germ factory to prepare for school.

Went to #Target to buy some more #yogurt, but got distracted by the pricing on school supplies. So I got backpacks ($18 each!) for #GD1 and #GD2 ( I bought #Little_Boy_A's backpack already ), art supplies, notebooks, folders, graph paper, an entry-level scientific calculator, pencils, elementary school lettering practice workbooks, and more.
#sonOne is going to have fun teaching his daughter to use that calculator. And the maps. Did I mention the wall-hanging USA and world maps I bought? (One pair for each son's kids.)
-
#Little_Boy_A’s grandmother is taking him school shopping this week, so I’ll send the backpack without school supplies.
Meanwhile, #GD1 and #GD2 have a shopping trip scheduled a week from now. I will not have to send a lot.

Purchased for six year old #Little_Boy_A

I think the lesson is clear: #GS2 (age 21) has communicated once in the last six years, while #Little_Boy_A (age 6) is always willing to communicate. Guess which grandson gets a new tablet?
-
#Daddy_A sent me a picture of #Little_Boy_A (age 6) and #Little_Boy_A2 (age 2.5) playing games on the #Switch I got them. The younger one is gigantic. He's within an inch of his older brother's height and seemingly heavier. The older one is already taller than most of his classmates.

Mark: So has #GS3 replaced #Little_Boy_A as your favorite grandson yet?
Me: I can have two favorites, you know.

I had a game for #Little_Boy_A's #2DS in my shopping cart, trying to wait until a month after his sixth birthday. But the price dropped enough that I went ahead and ordered it. It will arrive a few days after his birthday, so I'll tell his dad to put it with the "don't open until April" gifts.

I just passed a mini-parade. The bomberos (firefighters) and one of Cemex's local concrete companies MADE SOME NOISE as they escorted Santa Claus down the street. I really wish #GD2 and #Little_Boy_A were here to see it.

Fourteen months ago, #Little_Boy_A was explaining to me that the games he wanted were not going to be available for their #Nintendo #Wii-U, only for #3DS / #2DS and the #Switch. Two weeks later, I bought a used 2DS at GameStop and shipped it to #AZ.
I’m considering buying him a 2DS XL ... does anyone know what advantages and disadvantages the XL has in comparison to the regular 2DS?

#Little_Boy_A discovered that his Kano laptop has a user-modifiable #Minecraft ... he’s been exploring the mods he can make.
According to #Daddy_A, there is also a block-based programming editor that has a couple of different levels of difficulty, culminating in some use of #JavaScript.
