Looks like #MI had a big storm. Hundreds of thousands have no electricity right now. https://nu.federati.net/url/287578 [www clickondetroit com]

#NOAA / #NWS has been sending alerts for severe #t-storms with heavy rainfall and flash flooding most of today, covering much of #San_Bernardino County and parts of #Riverside County in !SoCal.
A couple of those alerts covered areas near me. My personal phone got alerted for #flash_floods, but my work phone (which was also with me) did not. This illustrates why people should get NOAA weather alert radios for their homes and other places where they spend a lot of time. (NOTE: Your $EMPLOYER may not allow you to set one up at the workplace.)
The alerts transmitted by mobile carriers are not dependable. In some areas, one carrier will have service and another will not. In other areas, multiple carriers may have service, but only one will alert. In still other areas, multiple carriers will transmit alerts, but there may be a few minutes between carriers.
They used to cost around $40 at Walmart. You have to find out the NOAA alert code for your county and enter it into the radio. Then, when it picks up the code, it will emit a loud beeping noise, then switch on the audio of the nearest NOAA weather radio station ... which should be describing the alert details.
In some places, the county-level alerts are not very helpful. San Bernardino County is one of those places, because the county is the largest in the lower 48 states, and covers an area from Montclair to Needles (multiple hours of driving apart from each other). But in most of the rest of the country, they are very helpful. For example, Wayne County, #MI (Detroit area) is relatively compact, so a weather alert there is likely relevant.

Reading about the damage from last night’s storms. Looks like 75K customers across #KS and #MO are without power. 375K customers across #WI and #MI have no power.

I should add Michigan to that list. It doesn't show as bad on the satellite image, but during a phone call with a friend there, he said a wall of heavy rainfall rolled across the highway in front of him.

#Daddy_A recently travelled to another state for a funeral. On the way back, they stopped in Detroit, #MI, to see the places where the baseball and hockey teams play. (After one of his back surgeries, he had toured the sports stadiums while using a walker, so there's some personal significance.)
He also mentioned driving in some disturbed weather and a cop pull over scare. (Four cars in fast lane going a little over the speed limit. Cop uses siren to get them all slowing down and moving over, then passes them.)

About 70 children in #Michigan hospitalized with #COVID-19 https://nu.federati.net/url/280879 [www nbcnews com] ...
The UK’s B.1.1.7 variant (more transmissible; more severe) believed to be part of the reason ... but I’ve also seen articles where they say #MI residents have gone from 70% mask use to 30%. That’s likely also a part of it.

@louis I'm going to say the expensive part is the treatment, if you get a severe case. Depending on where you are now, it might be relatively inexpensive to travel to Detroit #MI.

Philadelphia stopped counting mail-in ballots for the night, so the pinkish color in #PA could turn out to be wrong. Also, Detroit had very high early voting and mail-in turnout, so #MI's pinkish color is also potentially misleading.

Also, according to Politico, #Trump won in #FL, #IA, #OH. #Biden won in #MN, #NH. Maine and Nebraska allocate electoral votes by congressional district. In #ME, one of the two districts went for Biden (the other is not yet projected). In #NE, two of three districts went for Trump.
No results yet for #GA, #NV, #PA, #MI, #TX, WI, #NC.

Why the big push to get back on-campus so quickly? A campus employee in Ann Arbor #MI has a story. https://nu.federati.net/url/274506 [www metrotimes com]

Looks like #Biden is taking #MI, #MO, #MS in tonight’s vote.
Also seeing that his numbers seem to be stronger (3X from a month ago), while #Sanders’ numbers seem to be flat. https://www.cnn.com/election/2020/primaries-and-caucuses/polling [www cnn com]

A guy from work had wanted to move to #PR, but instead he bought a house in #MI.

My bedroom is 59F / 15C, 19% humidity. It’s 40F / 4C, 41% outside. This is a lot warmer than places like #CO, #WY, #MI; without being too hot, like #FL and #PR.

I think I unintentionally talked W into quitting. I’m not sorry. I think $EMPLOYER is wasting his skills and stringing him along with promises they will never fulfill.
It stinks that he’s back in #MI, where he hoped to escape, but maybe he’ll be able to work mostly remote, so he can live in #PR.

The minor outage area is spreading. Now both #MI and #OH are involved. The minor outage in #MD may not be related.
The outage area in #WA now covers 7 counties from 35% in Kitsap to 2.5% in Pierce. #Puget_Sound_Energy = 70%

@delores Last I heard, Flint, #MI, was switching back to the good water and had replaced most of their lead pipes.
