The hottest temperature I ever experienced was 116F sometime around the early 2000s. But 106F and humid (working in El Centro, #California, one year) and 96F and much more humid (working in #Mississippi one year) felt even worse. The awful thing about #MS was that the local people I worked with said it was the coolest Summer in thirty years, while I wondered how people could live there.

My #SoCal hometown is having another day that exceeds 100F / 38C outside. Inside temperature is 96F / 36C.
Slightly hotter than some parts of Sacramento #CA, but lower than Phoenix #AZ. Some clouds rolling in, so maybe we’ll have some overcast ... or maybe even a little rain.
We have not yet had the traditional August rainstorm. (Cools things off that day, but then the next day or two return to full heat, only now they have humidity that feels akin to parts of #LA or #MS.)

I got a chuckle out of seeing people asking where Belarus is. I attended California public schools. At that time, CA schools were 47th out of the 50 states. As a result, in times like this, I expect everyone who did not live in Mississippi to have received a better education than I did.

The Summer that I worked in #MS was beastly hot and humid. People kept telling me it was the coldest Summer in many years, but I couldn't see how that could be possible.
"How can people live here?" was my daily question.

@geniusmusing I am so glad they've done this.
When I was working in #MS, nearly every Euro-American I talked to would realize by my non-Southern speech that I was not a resident. They'd day almost word for word "It's not like it was fifty yrars ago; give it a chance".
It was hard to do so when the courthouses had Confederate monuments with captions like "dedicated to the men who fought for our freedom" and the state flag (in a majority Black state) still had the Confederate battle flag in it.

https://www.nola.com/news/hurricane/article_ef16de06-a8e9-11ea-85b4-03ec4831845e.html storm surge already reaching some areas, such as Biloxi, #MS. I haven’t heard anything about the levees in New Orleans, #LA, so I assume they don’t expect any problem.

#TropStorm #Cristobal is in the Gulf of Mexico, heading N toward #LA, eastern #TX, #MS. Heavy rain also expected in #FL and #AL. Pay attention to the #NOAA / #NHC site: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

84F in my room; 89F outside, heading for 94F. This is the beginning of the hot season.
No, it is not as bad as being in #MS, #AL, #LA, or even the #CA Central Valley, but #SoCal still feels rather hot to me.

I don't know what a "level 4" storm is, but apparently, they expect one tonight in #GA. Actually, I do have an idea: The #NOAA / #NWS / #SPC Storm Prediction Center has sent out #tornado watches in parts of #MS, #AL, #TN, AR, #LA ... so their alerts in Georgia are probably an extension of the same severe #t-storm system. S probably means that an EF4 tornado is possible.

Looks like #Biden is taking #MI, #MO, #MS in tonight’s vote.
Also seeing that his numbers seem to be stronger (3X from a month ago), while #Sanders’ numbers seem to be flat. https://www.cnn.com/election/2020/primaries-and-caucuses/polling [www cnn com]

@amic I don't know anything about Etsy shoppers, but I was surprised several years ago to find a Whole Foods in Pearl, #MS, just outside the capital city of Jackson.

@rw @augustus
I have worked in fifteen states, including Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana (but not Georgia, Florida, Texas).
Out of all the places I’ve worked, #MS is the top of the “hot and humid” list. They Summer that I was in Starkville (where Mississippi State University is), I was thinking “how do people live in this awful heat and humidity?” and the locals that I worked with were saying “this is the coldest Summer we’ve had in decades”.

#TS_Barry forms near Louisiana. Expect a long bath in #TX, #MS, #LA, because #NOAA / #NHC said the storm is only moving around 5MPH.

The office here filed to extend the assignment. I'm so bored that I feel brain cells dying. I've handled more cases today as a call-in resource for TechTeam members in #AL, #MS, #MD than I have for #CA. The guy behind me has zero cases today in Remedy.
.
I'm glad to have a little revenue, but wow.

Mark tells me he got a text saying they need him in #MS because the sender is there and wants to leave.

If you are in one of the states with flooding, two things you should do:
(1) make sure everyone in your dwelling is current on their vaccinations; and
(2) make sure you have a couple of days worth of bottled water, in case your local water processing / filtration plant is overwhelmed by the floodwaters.
Applies (at least) in parts of #MN #ND #SD #NE #MO #IA #KS #IL #TN #AR #MS #LA

This weekend has been a time of #t-storms and #tornado warnings in #KS and #MO. I think I even saw one for parts of #LA and #MS.
.
I've seen this in December before, so it is not too unusual, but it is still unexpected.

I am looking up information about the New Madrid Seismic Zone ( #NMSZ ) / New Madrid Fault Line ( #NMFL ) and the possibly related Wabash Valley Seismic Zone ( #WVSZ ). I remember reading that it was a failed continent-splitting rift and thinking that it went southward into Louisiana and Mississippi, but apparently, it doesn’t.
