I should clarify that this is a summary of what their comment says, not my own opinion.
I think the nuclear threats are because he backed himself into a corner by promising quick success in the #invasion of #Ukraine ... #Russia can still continue the #war for some time before running out of options. (Without considering the option of overthrowing #Putin, as I consider that unlikely until and unless the Russian military leaders see total military collapse in their near future.)
As for if or when a nuclear exchange will start, I profess complete lack of knowledge. He's a would-be world emperor, so seeing his path forward stymied could trigger an attack at any time. Or he could sit in the corner crying that those meanies prevented him from righting the (in his mind) wrong that was the breakup of the Soviet Union. It is anyone's guess which will happen.

#Putin's nuclear dick-waving is because he's rapidly running out of options besides nukes and admitting failure of #Russia's #invasion of #Ukraine

Something I don’t understand: rightist Holocaust deniers love to bring up the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor in response to discussion of Nazi atrocities, but suddenly forgot all that when #Putin’s #Russia starts a war against #Ukraine.

The author, Olga Chyzh believes that neither the intelligence community nor the military wishes the war to end, because of the purges that can be expected.

Russian military conscripts say they were sent out with non-functioning 1940s rifles https://nu.federati.net/url/285614 [www dailymail co uk]
I don't know how reliable the Daily Mail is (not being from the UK), especially about #Russia's invasion of #Ukraine. With this article, they're probably not on #Putin's payroll.

Sorry, I can't read Italian.
Article says that #Putin says he plans to withdraw #RU troops from most of #UA by 2022-05-09, leaving only the Donbass areas (e.g., the breakaway republics) and speculates that this is not likely to happen unless #Russia has lost a lot of soldiers and cannot continue its invasion. And even then, if they unilaterally retreated, every Ukrainian would continue shooting as they left ... and probably follow them into the Donbass region in an attempt to liberate its territory from the invaders.

Vladimir #Putin discussing the #Russia versus #Ukraine war and sanctions' collective effect of purifying Russian society of those whose values come from elsewhere.
If a group of Russian military leaders are going to overthrow him, they'd better hurry. He's starting the purges.

I'd be very careful about underestimating #Russia's military. As a number of its former #USSR / #CCCP sister republics have learned, the primary obstacle to #Putin's dream of rebuilding the empire is Russia itself, not any opposing nation.

I wonder what it's like to be compliant, even in lockstep, with #Putin? #mastodon
