Heard from my brother in #NC. They are okay. The roof is damaged, but everything else appears to be alright. A cousin that moved there recently said their neighborhood is cut off by flooding, but they too are fine. #Hurricane / #TropStorm #Florence
-
#Isaac became a #TropStorm overnight. #PR and #USVI still preparing for potential effects.
.
#Hurricane #Florence getting bigger. #NC, #SC have evacuations.

#TropStorm Florence strengthening, heading toward #SC, #NC as a major # hurricane. Meanwhile, TropStorm Isaac heads toward the Caribbean. https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Looking at https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo.php?basin=atlc&fdays=5 I see a crooked line of five storms or potential storms from the coast of Africa to the middle of the US.
Also, #TS_Florence now looks to be headed for the Carolinas. It is only a #TropStorm right now, but expected to strengthen again.

Former #TropStorm #Beryl is really falling apart quickly. The radar says the main mass is SW of #PR, with a little tail going over us. There is little rain and no wind.
I'm sure there was some damage (probably along the southern coast), this was mostly a non-event here in the San Juan metro.
While I'm glad it wasn't severe, I don't think I got any idea what tropical cyclones are like in person.

The advance chunk of the former #TropStorm #Beryl has moved offshore, north of #PR. The main section is over #USVI now. This is pretty neat. Able to observe what a storm is like without the danger.

#TropStorm #Chris meandering well off the coast of the Carolinas https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

#TropStorm #Beryl has started to break up.
"Satellite imagery and ASCAT scatterometer wind data confirm the sharp open-trough pattern that was indicated by earlier aircraft reconnaissance wind data. Although Beryl has a well-defined, tight vortex noted in GOES-16 hi-res visible satellite imagery, that feature appears to be located above the surface. The latest radar data from Martinique also shows little if any rotation in the most recent convective burst that has developed just north of the aforementioned vortex. Given that the remnants of Beryl are now moving at a forward speed of at least 23 kt, it is highly unlikely that the very small circulation is closed at the surface. ...
Tropical storm conditions are possible for Dominica tonight.
Elsewhere across the Leeward Islands, strong gusty winds and locally heavy rains are possible tonight and Monday, and these conditions are expected to spread across the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Hispaniola on Tuesday." -- https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

#TropStorm #Beryl moving faster, disorganized, weakening; TropStorm #Chris forms well off the #NC coast, strengthening, expected not to hit US coast. (Canadian Maritimes could be affected.) https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Former #hurricane #Beryl weakens to a #TropStorm, TD3 stationary and slowly strengthening: #NOAA / #NHC https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Someone at work said they went to the store (here in #PR) and saw people buying up food and water. Even though #Hurricane #Beryl is expected to be a weakened #TropStorm and to pass to the South of the island ( see https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at2+shtml/113837.shtml?cone#contents ), they remember Maria's impact (as they should; according to a recent check at status.pr, 1/20 of the island is still without power).
I may catch an Uber to Walmart to see whether they have some water purification kits in the camping section. I go to the local supermarkets and drug stores frequently enough to know they do not have such kits.

#NOAA #NHC site no longer shows any mark for #TropStorm Philippe http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Oddly, #sonTwo did not say anything about #TropStorm Philippe's effects on #SoFlo. Maybe that will be in one of today's calls. #NOAA #NHC says the storm is affecting the #Bahamas as it speeds away from #Florida.

Looks like #TropStorm Nate may be spending part of the weekend in New Orleans. At least, that's what the #NOAA #NHC chart predicts. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
