Drilled and populated the front panel. No drill press so I did it by hand. One hole is off by a 1/16th or so, but it's close enough for DIY! I have a panel I designed from Front Panel Express, which I might order in the future, but it's pricey, so we'll see.

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Monday, 27-May-2019 14:46:43 UTC Ricardus Finally got around to laying out the front panel for the tube mic preamp. I'll drill it after lunch. It's times like these when I wish I had a drill press.

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Wednesday, 08-May-2019 00:32:32 UTC Ricardus The 2U Rack Box arrived today from Collective Cases. I had to do a little fab to the front panel to get it to screw to the back box, but otherwise it's perfect (just had to ream the holes a tad bigger). They do nice work there.
Here it is mocked up with the IEC, Star Ground, and XLRs.

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Friday, 19-Apr-2019 14:27:19 UTC Ricardus OK. 1 watt 500 volt replacement resistors in the board. So what I have left is actually getting the tubes (6922's x4), getting the rack box, and some wire I need to run jumpers to the switches (probably 22 gauge in 6 colors), wire to hookup the XLRs (Belden 8451), and wire the for AC mains. Probaby 18 or 20 gauge since this should never draw more than 2 amps, and when warm, should only draw 750 milliwatts total.

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Friday, 19-Apr-2019 03:32:06 UTC Ricardus My shipment of 8 whole resistors should be here tomorrow, and then every component will be soldered to the PCBs. Then it's a question of getting the rack box and tubes, and running some jumpers to the switches, and we'll be good to go. That's still a couple two three weeks away.

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Sunday, 14-Apr-2019 17:54:02 UTC Ricardus Oh weird! I had some time to kill so I was just staring at the original BOM for the preamp, and I noticed 4 of the 1/2 watt resistors needed to be rated for 300 volts, and the ones I got were only 250. Order placed for proper replacements.

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Sunday, 14-Apr-2019 01:37:08 UTC Ricardus I've made some progress on the vacuum tube mic pre. I soldered for a couple hours and have all of the resistors, all the diodes and various other semis, and all the inductors in both boards. I'll get to the caps tomorrow.

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Saturday, 06-Apr-2019 19:31:27 UTC Ricardus Since these tube preamps were designed to be standalone units, they have ON/OFF switches on the PCB. It dawned on me that since I will be mounting 2 of these in a 2U rack box with a master ON/OFF switch, that I will have to jumper the PCB so those switches are "ON." Did that a little while ago.
