@ragamuffinjim Your #Matrix handle is more like "ragamuffinjim:matrix.heldscal.la" ... they had to be different, so that normies won't know how to share their addresses.
-
Yes, it does.

@ster Not better. Worse. In fact, the only way to make it worse than it is, is to give people UUIDs as their handles. They didn't just obscure user accounts, they turned room addresses into impenetrable gobbledegook as well. Like many of their decisions, I wonder WTF the #Matrix people were thinking when they made those choices.

@ster Ask a non-tech friend to try #Matrix. Ask them to find an interesting room and then send you the address or invite you.
It isn't just "!XBUUlyZYEpaDVInYmy:matrix.org" that they won't understand. "#btc:matrix.org" wil likewise not be understandable.

@ster The alternative is addressing that users already understand, instead of the "make up a scheme that will take a decade for people to figure out".
I'm trying to motivate the devs to fix Matrix before it collapses under the weight of bonehead decisions.

@ster I'm glad that you acknowledge that Matrix needs improvement. You can't know what most bothers me about it from one narrowly focused conversation, but I'm glad to hear you desire to better it.
