@perloid @ken_fallon Commonmark recommends what most people seem to do anyway: use HTML.

Markdown's greatest failure is its consistent fallback to HTML. It's as if markup is actually necessary, after all.... Anyway, structure is better than no structure.

(Personally, I try to turn tables into bullet lists whenever possible.)
