@dublinux like most of Mastodon's toxicity-avoidance design decisions, this breaks UX for legitimate users much more often than it slows down Bad Actors, who just hack around it. The crippled hashtag search is a classic example. Bad Actors can just use a different fediverse app that has the fully functional hashtag search Gargron wanted to implement, but Mastodon users trying to find new friends with common interests are trapped on their own instance. Everybody loses.
