Yes, #F-Droid is a better option than #Google_Play, but F-Droid is also known to expel Fediverse client apps when confronted with an astroturf campaign against them.

@clacke Yes. The reason I posted is that people think that #F-Droid will step in and rescue apps that #Google #Play_Store bans, but history shows that is not the case.

@clacke I have not seen any more posts by app developers, but I did see someone else claim this morning (US time) that nearly all known #Fediverse client apps are now threatened with expulsion from Google Play over the ability to access unacceptable "user generated content (UGC)".

Someone else implied that Google does not understand federated networks. And, as Google is a huge company, it is very likely that most of the company does not. But some portion of Google likely remembers exploring Diaspora in order to clone it (sans federation) as GPlus.

@vegos There is, sort of. If app developers expose a ".apk" file, people can download that and install it--if they have already enabled installation outside of the Play Store, which is a tiny setting that is sometimes pretty hard to find (same setting is needed to enable F-Droid).

Normies don't know about it, and if they did, they would have to search a while to find it. And every time they try, they'll get a pop-up asking them to enable "Play Protect" which would prevent them from installing the file directly.

And they also won't get updates.

I would certainly welcome the widespread availability and uptake of a few more mobile operating systems.
