   This is from 2020. Search engine #Gigablast partnered with Kape Technologies (owner of Private Internet Access #PIA_VPN) to create "the world's most private search engine", https://private.sh/ ... I occasionally use Gigablast, but Kape was the reason I cancelled my PIA VPN. I'm unlikely to use this search site.

     The company now known as Kape Technologies was supposedly a malware vendor and now they own multiple VPN services, including PIA. And they have some relationship with the FreeNode IRC network ... at one point, all the workers left and founded a new IRC network, then the owners wiped all existing user accounts.
     
     Note that with both PIA and FreeNode, the takeovers happened some time before the acquisition was revealed publicly.
     
     So I don't trust PIA (the VPN service I formerly used), nor do I trust FreeNode, nor do I feel like I can trust Private dot sh, and it all because of Kape.
