@kai In the #1980s, I believe, Kodak launched a research branch to explore digital photography. I recall "Eastman Technologies" as the name. I don't know how they failed to be the leading company in the industry's digital transition. -

@lnxw48a1 George died in 1932 at age 77, so he wasn't exactly around to lead the company to continued profitability. (He shot himself in the heart with a luger, leaving a note: "To my friends / My work is done / Why wait?")
A Kodak employee invented digital photography in 1975, and the DSLR in 1989. Kodak subsisted on patents until they expired in 2007 and filed for bankruptcy in 2012.
The money to found Kodak came from selling buggy whips.
