Sending messages to multiple users was pretty screwy when iPhone users' messages used a different transport (with different organizational settings for allowed content) than others.
I do have a (personal) iPad, so that I can Facetime with my favorite grandson, but now that his dad uses Wire, I never use Facetime anymore.
