For over a decade, seeing a #Windows update (either OS or application) has triggered an "oh, no, what's it going to break?" response. Now, #Android and #iOS do the same thing. -

Same issue. Cannot maintain a connection to a pub, so everything I can see is weeks old.
I'll wait another week or two before I completely abandon it.
I should write up my experience with the #SSB network. I'd heard so much about this wonder of #DCO (disconnected operation) and #P2P (peer-to-peer) that I think my expectations were too high. -

Me: over $1,000 for a phone? That’s out of my price range. -

I'm looking through some XEPs, looking for one that specifies that all requests sent from non-roster JIDs can be rejected.
(Yes, I use Xabber, not #Conversations, as my #XMPP client on #Android. Every time I try to use Conversations, I have a very strong reaction and end up deleting it. I think the most recent time is permanent. I just can't stand it.) -

Or maybe I just remember it wrong. On the new phone, I was able to disable it. Of course, now any time something Google wrote launches, it notifies me that $APP_OR_SERVICE_NAME cannot function unless Google Play Services is enabled.
Funny that. Everything works fine. (And I'm accumulating a list of things that are not allowed to notify me.) -

https://blog.kapeli.com/goodbye-dash-for-ios in January, development of Dash for #iOS was discontinued. Wow. I know that iOS apps are a dumpster fire with all the platform changes, but that caught me off-guard.
I do agree with https://blog.kapeli.com/dash-for-ios-android-windows-or-linux in that the project would be a lot of work, and the person or people behind it would likely need to derive some or all of their income through the project somehow. (Patreon account?) -

The only way to 'meet' people and make contacts is to join a pub.
Copying a 'pub' invite and pasting it into the client is not easy. It took several tries on the Apple iPad, and was only possible by learning to trick the text selection function. On Android, there are some characters in the pub invite that can only be selected if you select all (grabs way more than what you want, leaving you to edit after pasting). I eventually resorted to copying the portion that selected easily, and manually entering the rest.
Each device / installation gets its own individual identity hash. In your profile, you can attach a friendly name, which is displayed to others instead of the full identity hash. Don't try restoring a hash from one device onto another, because the #Secure_Scuttlebutt network seems to deliver everything to the first device and leave the second one alone.
There seems to be a smallish set of users, many of whom are building SSB software, hosting pubs, and building similar #peer-to-peer ( #p2p ) networks.
I am nowhere near an expert with it, and I generally only open the client about once per week. It usually takes a while to update, so at first, the old posts from a week before are all you see. -

It apparently was an old Twitter client that supports Twitter's functionality from several years ago, and very little else. It is slooo-o-o-o-o-o-owwwww to post, even when other clients are not.
I haven't seen anything else for iOS that supports GS, but it might be worth going to the big blue discount store (aka #Walmart ) and buying their $80 #Android device, so you can use #AndStatus instead. AndStatus is not known for being fast, but it can run circles around Shoyu, even running backwards, with its eyes closed and its ankles bound. -

The #iPhone was okay until #iOS 10.3.0, and then immediately started having severe battery life issues.
Taking a little break and then comes the actual set up of the new phone and attempting to wipe the old one before shipping it back.
I realize that much of this is the agency's "enterprise" set up, but I've never heard of an #Android user going through so many steps and stages to get a phone working. -

Even before I contact the kids to ask one of them to join me as a guinea pig, I installed the Session software on on #iOS tablet and one #Android tablet. I launched the iOS app, created an ID, flipped over to the "link a device" QR code, clicked "Link to an existing account" on Android. Result: in 0 out of 4 attempts did the Android version perceive that authorization was granted on the iOS side, even after sitting for a few minutes. Nope. People are not going to fiddle with it to try to get one ID active on two devices. (Incidentally, two devices connected to the same ID is the maximum allowed. If you have two phones and two tablets, you won't be able to use the same ID on all of them.) -

The only one I generally enjoy using is the Samsung S4 with a keyboard attachment and their Dex software. Basically, it turns #Android into a desktop OS, with applications running in their own windows. But of course, at that point, it isn't really a tablet. It's a mini-laptop.

Using i2P for #Android with the internal browser and default settings. I’m not really sure what it offers or why someone would use it, given the experience of it never working before (and not correctly now). -
