Also, today's smoke is much thinner. Very little orangish tint to the world and much brighter outside today. I think the wind direction has shifted, so that may be the main difference.
The El Dorado Fire was climbing some rugged parts of the San Bernardino mountains, so it seems unlikely they made that big of an advance in containing and extinguishing the fire. This fire is not far from where the Apple Fire burned last month. In the prior fire, the winds took most of the smoke away from this area.
https://www.fire.ca.gov/ has a list of active fire incidents in #CA.

New #CA law restricting how much debt collectors can drain from a person’s bank accounts https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2020-09-01/column-coronavirus-debt-collectors [www latimes com]
Why haven’t they done this before? It is not like we are just learning how scummy and scammy debt collection companies are.

https://water.ca.gov/Programs/Water-Use-And-Efficiency/Agricultural-Water-Use-Efficiency [water ca gov]
Claims that #CA agriculture is water efficient. I call BS. In some parts of the state, you can drive past and see that they're using "flood" irrigation. Which can help replenish groundwater as well as increasing rainfall downwind, but isn't efficient at point of use.

The hottest temperature I ever experienced was 116F sometime around the early 2000s. But 106F and humid (working in El Centro, #California, one year) and 96F and much more humid (working in #Mississippi one year) felt even worse. The awful thing about #MS was that the local people I worked with said it was the coolest Summer in thirty years, while I wondered how people could live there.

My #SoCal hometown is having another day that exceeds 100F / 38C outside. Inside temperature is 96F / 36C.
Slightly hotter than some parts of Sacramento #CA, but lower than Phoenix #AZ. Some clouds rolling in, so maybe we’ll have some overcast ... or maybe even a little rain.
We have not yet had the traditional August rainstorm. (Cools things off that day, but then the next day or two return to full heat, only now they have humidity that feels akin to parts of #LA or #MS.)

I got a chuckle out of seeing people asking where Belarus is. I attended California public schools. At that time, CA schools were 47th out of the 50 states. As a result, in times like this, I expect everyone who did not live in Mississippi to have received a better education than I did.
