Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Monday, 11-Mar-2019 22:50:08 UTC Ricardus Got the shock mounts in today for the U87s, and I've cut the foam for them in their cases. Just waiting on some custom drawstring bags for them, and I'll be read to rock.

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Monday, 11-Mar-2019 19:09:38 UTC Ricardus OK. Shock mounts arrived for the 87s and these fit perfectly. Now I can actually record with these.

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Friday, 08-Mar-2019 16:01:58 UTC Ricardus OK, this should be the final mod to the U87s unless something really out-of-the-ordinary is necessary. My friend Dave cut me some capsule-mount shims with this Star Trek Replicator device out of some nice 1/8th in acrylic stock. I needed a 1/4 inches, so I CA glued two together, and shimmed up the capsules so they're at the appropriate height, now. My goal was to do this with as little disassembly as possibly, and all went well. Shims, before, and after.

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Wednesday, 06-Mar-2019 02:09:53 UTC Ricardus Now it looks like I have some shock mounts coming from England from the same place I got the bodies. Hopefully these are nice. #D87Build

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Mar-2019 02:59:14 UTC Ricardus @gedvondur The local antique shops know vintage iron is in demand and price accordingly. I'm looking for more good deals.
I used the self cleaning oven method. Worked great.
The whole mic build thread can be seen if you search on the hashtag #D87Build .

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Tuesday, 05-Mar-2019 01:02:15 UTC Ricardus So the shock mounts I ordered for the U87 clones came today, but didn't really fit the mics. So I had to send them back. #D87Build

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Monday, 04-Mar-2019 22:45:51 UTC Ricardus OMG. A friend recently told me about these soldering lessons on youtube, produced around 1980, and they're brilliant. Easily the best soldering course I have ever seen. Sure, some things have changed since then, but this info and these techniques are still the way to do it.

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Monday, 04-Mar-2019 00:23:03 UTC Ricardus I guess these projects are never done. A friend with a laser cutter made me some custom capsule mount shims, because as is I think the capsules sit about 1/4 inch below where they would sit in a real U87. So I glued two of these together. I'll shim these up at some point this week. #D87Build

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Sunday, 24-Feb-2019 01:44:23 UTC Ricardus So... I *THOUGHT* I ordered some shock mounts for the 87s last week. I was hoping to get them by today. No joy. I reached out to the guy who stocks and sells them and he said he was customizing mine to my mics (I sent him dimensions). Pretty cool, but a heads up would have been nice! #D87Build

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Feb-2019 17:53:42 UTC Ricardus Shock mounts ordered for the U87 clones. Soon I'll be able to cut foam in the road cases I bought, and they'll be good to go.
Next up, BTW, is a Urei 1176 (Rev D) clone!
