Got the capsules mounted in the body, wired the XLR to the main board, applied phantom power and nothing 'sploded. Biased the FET, wired in the capsule, and it sounds like a million bucks. Everything was perfect. The 2nd one is almost done as well. #D87Build

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Saturday, 05-Jan-2019 00:21:32 UTC Ricardus Got the capsule and mount installed. required some precise drilling. Nothing some geometry and a micrometer wouldn't fix. #D87Build

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Wednesday, 02-Jan-2019 23:14:08 UTC Ricardus Both boards are now jumpered together and the switch board is wired to board #2. The pic kind of shows how the boards will sit in the mic bodies. Now all I have to do is mount the capsules which will require a small mod to the body, then I bias the FET and then wire the capsule in. Hopefully after that I have two killer 87 clones. #D87Build

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Monday, 31-Dec-2018 18:04:48 UTC Ricardus Capsules and mounts arrived a day early! Well, two really, but one is a holiday. Can't do anymore work on these til Thursday. #D87Build

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Monday, 31-Dec-2018 17:04:34 UTC Ricardus Looks like the capsules are getting here a day early! It's too bad the power is out. But I have some baking to do for a party tomorrow, so I can't work on the mics today. Come to think of it, I can't do either with no power. #D87Build

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Sunday, 30-Dec-2018 03:18:13 UTC Ricardus Looks like the capsule order was packed and shipped today. My friend who is the dealer knows the owners of the company well, so that probably helped. Still probably won't see them til Thursday or so. That's fine.

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Friday, 28-Dec-2018 22:40:31 UTC Ricardus Placed the order for the U87 capsules, today, with my friend. Not quite in time for the manufacturer to even see the order, but hopefully they work on Monday and can at least pack it. We might be in the home stretch on the build!

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Thursday, 27-Dec-2018 23:21:11 UTC Ricardus Ok, every component is soldered and the XLR is soldered. Now all I have to do is jumper the boards together and connect the switch board to board #2. Then I can bias the FETs and then connect the capsules (which aren't here yet).

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Wednesday, 26-Dec-2018 02:21:14 UTC Ricardus I didn't do anything fancy to mount the xformer. Turns out it fits snugly in the provided hole, so I just criss-crossed some zip ties and hid the clamp thingie in the back. To me this doesn't look awful at all. It does slightly obscure the Peluso logo, but I guess we'll have to live with it. I was going to 3D print some custom straps and secure them with screws but after working with this small board (it's smaller than it looks) I decided the zip ties were easier in cramped quarters. #D87Build

Ricardus (ricardus)'s status on Wednesday, 26-Dec-2018 01:19:00 UTC Ricardus I haven't soldered for that long in a while. you really have to concentrate with these small boards and small solder pads. Plus I was super careful when stuffing, so I got it right.
