#Daddy_A: #Mama_A and I have decided to become members of $CHURCH.
It turns out that the church has helped them quite a bit during his wife’s health scare. (BTW: The surgery happened and she seems to be recovering well.) He hasn’t mentioned it, but I’m pretty sure the church has been bringing them food for years.
I don’t know anything else about that congregation, but the part I’ve heard, I like.

Target has books in the ‘Captain Underpants’ series on sale for $8 and books in the ‘Dog Man’ series on sale for $9 ($3 below normal price).
However, they don’t have ‘A Tale of Two Kitties’ or ‘Dog Man and Cat Kid’ in stock. Those are the two Dog Man books I’m missing for #GD2.
I still do not have a list of which books #A1 already has, so he’s going to have to wait. #Daddy_A is still too worried about the medical issue to either get me a list himself or hand the phone to his son and say “take photos of the book covers” and then send them to me.
Meanwhile, #sonTwo has committed to read them to #GS3 if I send them. Which means he’s likely to get some of the books.

It appears that #Mama_A’s recent health issue is an infection. They’re giving her a mix of antibiotics and when that is controlled, she’ll have her surgery.
#Daddy_A is still pretty freaked out, so we’re trying to make sure one of us talks to him every day.
-
#sonTwo: Since you did not get that job you were after, maybe you can come stay with us and help with grandkids.
#sonOne: Oh, no! How are you taking it?
( #Daddy_A is still pretty focused on his wife's health. I'm going to try to talk with him again tomorrow. )

When my mom and one of my sisters tried to talk me into dyeing my hair, I pointed to one spot and said "these hairs turned white when #sonOne was 16", then to another spot and said "these changed colors when #sonTwo was 14 and #Daddy_A was 12" and then told about the events of those time periods. "I earned these. It would be wrong to hide them."

Good night and #TZAG. Since #Daddy_A is pretty worried about #Mama_A’s health and I tried to call after the kids were in bed, I’m pretty sure he’s going to call back before they get up … and he’s in Central timezone, not Pacific.

#sonTwo made it to the next stage of the hiring process. He’s scrambling to try to produce more evidence of his skillset.
He has to travel out of state for next week’s in-person interview.
Meanwhile, #Daddy_A is concerned about #Mama_A’s health … the consequences that this surgery could have has him scared.

Audio was distorted, but I did get to #videochat with #GS3 for a couple of minutes before bedtime. He asked me “wha you doing?”, then showed me his book and pointed out some of the characters. Then it was time to say good night. First he said “no, don’t go”, but then he was ready and said good night.
Reminds me of his cousin #A1, whose “terrible twos” was that he said “no” to his mom a couple of times. (He’s very much like his dad … we used to arrange “supervised rebellion” for #Daddy_A so that he wouldn’t wait until his thirties to disobediently try something.)

#Daddy_A informed my that his phone did not ring when I called over the weekend, and that’s why we did not get to have our videochat. He also finally informed me about his wife’s surgery.
-
Did not get to #videochat with #sonOne and his family, nor with #Daddy_A and his family.
I did get about half an hour with #sonTwo and his family. They took #GS3 to a field with lots of tall flowers and he got to run between them. Then I walked to the store to replenish my #yogurt supply. When I came back, it was almost bedtime for the two year old, so we had a rushed session.
GS3 is particularly a fan of broccoli ? right now, so they’ve been making sure he has a little every day. He also likes cheese, so tonight he finished his quesadilla while talking to grandpa. I didn’t understand a word he said until time for “bye bye” and “good night”, but he smiled and babbled. I suppose he was probably talking about the field trip.
#GS4 sat quietly and watched the screen where grandpa was. And smiled.

Sent messages to sons asking to schedule short #videochat sessions tomorrow.
I normally have one with #sonOne and #GD1 and #GD2 (on rare occasions daughter-in-law pops in for a few minutes) Sunday afternoons, but recently, his work schedule has interfered.
I normally have them Fridays and Sundays with #sonTwo and #GS3 and #GS4 (sometimes daughter-in-law, but she's often busy), but we missed tonight's session.
Sessions with #Daddy_A, #A1, #A2, and #A3 are infrequent, and he often has device issues that prevent it. (That is, his iPhone and iPad don't display notifications or make sounds ... he even took the phone in for service; they couldn't correct it, so they replaced it.)

Bought two books in a series “New Kid” and “Class Act” for #A1 and #GD2 … and alerted their fathers that they should read those books first, then use their judgement as to when to let the kids read them.
The books were in the 8-13 section at Target, but the kids are 8 and 9, so I wanted to be sure the books weren’t too mature for the kids.
Also got two “Baby-sitters Club” graphic novels (also 8-13, so same notice to #sonOne) and two “Captain Underpants” (no need for a notice, #Daddy_A used read those himself).
-
#sonTwo said the graphics tablet I bought him is very small, but still useful for what he's doing.
#Daddy_A hasn't said anything about it at all.
-
@clacke Thanks for that info. #A1 asked me for more Dog Man and Captain Underpants books, so I asked #Daddy_A to get me a list of which ones he already has.
I'll send his cousin #GD2 the same series.

#Daddy_A informed me that power and Internet have been restored after several days without.
-
Alerted #Daddy_A to expect a phone call tomorrow. When the older kids start asking me how he's doing, it means he hasn't been communicating with anyone.
-
#Daddy_A tells me they recently had a multi-day power outage. Power is back, but as of when he informed me, they still had no Internet service.
The kids have been in #SoCal, visiting some of their mom's family members. I do not know whether they had returned home when this happened.
-
Sent a much smaller school supplies shipment to #sonOne recently. I have not yet shipped #Daddy_A's shipment, but it is also smaller than usual, even though there are now two kids in school.
-
#Daddy_A recently travelled to another state for a funeral. On the way back, they stopped in Detroit, #MI, to see the places where the baseball and hockey teams play. (After one of his back surgeries, he had toured the sports stadiums while using a walker, so there's some personal significance.)
He also mentioned driving in some disturbed weather and a cop pull over scare. (Four cars in fast lane going a little over the speed limit. Cop uses siren to get them all slowing down and moving over, then passes them.)
-
#Daddy_A tells me that the kids are in #SoCal visiting their mother's relatives. I'm not expecting it, but it would be nice if they called and offered me 2-3 hours with #A, #A2, #A3.
We could go hang out at In-N-Out or something.
