#sonTwo (2nd son) got to experience #Atlanta morning rush hour traffic today. He was quite shaken. He says it added hours to his trip.
He says he'd rather walk in Death Valley.
Later on, a #GA sheriff's deputy pulled him over, talked with him, and suggested rest and a Red Bull before continuing his trip.

Today, we read about #Arkansas and #Georgia. Did you know #GA has a granite mountain that has Stonewall Jackson, Jefferson Davis, and Robert E. Lee carved into it? https://nu.federati.net/attachment/288267

I took the #CDC's immunization survey today. For several days, an Atlanta #GA number has been calling the $EMPLOYER cellular phone in the evenings and leaving messages asking me to call them back. It was about ten or fifteen minutes, including demographic questions (most of which were prefixed by a statement about their requirement of privacy). I generally do not answer those questions at all, but I did answer a couple of them.
All in all, not bad. I don't recall what university is partnering in the project, but I'm pretty sure they are in Pennsylvania somewhere.

#NOAA / #NHC #TropStorm #Elsa briefly reached #hurricane status again off shore of Tampa Bay, but is now a tropical storm again. Storm surge, tornadoes, wind and rain all expected across the US Southeast over the next few days.
If you're in #FL, #GA, #SC, #NC, #AL it is probably too late to do any additional preparation. Just try to ride it out.

Remember when the #GA governor forbade Atlanta and surrounding cities from enforcing #COVID-19 restrictions except what the state itself instituted?
Someone working in #AZ told me their governor is doing the same thing. (Well, I'm not sure whether my contact meant restrictions or actively seeking to vaccinate people. It was a short conversation.)

On the #GA Senate races, I did see earlier which one is up in two years and which one is a full six year seat, but I've forgotten.

@mangeurdenuage Well, most of the states have certified their results and most of the lawsuits are over. So, barring either a Supreme Court decision or faithless electors at the electoral college, we know #Biden will be the next President, taking over in January.
I'm still trying to avoid nearly all #politics / #USPol / #Election_2020 news and discussion, but it is time for #Trump and his supporters to face reality and accept defeat. A better focus is the upcoming runoff elections for two #GA Senate seats.
-
Also, according to Politico, #Trump won in #FL, #IA, #OH. #Biden won in #MN, #NH. Maine and Nebraska allocate electoral votes by congressional district. In #ME, one of the two districts went for Biden (the other is not yet projected). In #NE, two of three districts went for Trump.
No results yet for #GA, #NV, #PA, #MI, #TX, WI, #NC.

If you haven’t made an emergency evacuation plan yet, it is time to do so now. Ours is outdated, so needs work.
But basically, if you’ll need to bring it in an emergency, you should know where it is and be able to grab it quickly. If you’ve got pets or children in your home, or if you’ve got someone with health issues, you should never wait until authorities give evacuation orders. Be ready to leave and to get beyond the danger area BEFORE the crowds try to flee.
When #sonTwo and his wife were in #FL, they spent something like 12 hours one time getting from Miami / Ft Lauderdale to Tampa. Another time, they spent over a day getting out of FL into #GA, only to find that there were no places in southern GA with space available ... I think they wound up going to #MS to avoid the storm.

You can’t make this stuff up. More than 800 #GA students told to self-isolate after being exposed to #SARS-CoV-2, the #coronavirus that causes #COVID-19, at school. And some people think this is right time to reopen the schools!

9 students from #GA high school test positive for #COVID-19 after returning to school
The overwhelming majority of these students will not have serious illness, but they do have parents and grandparents at home. This may be a good time to re-think our schools-as-overcrowded-prisons-where-we-confine-people-for-being-too-young system of education.

Waiting to hear back from S about the conditions in the US state of #Georgia. If you have not been paying attention, the governor of #GA sued the mayor of #Atlanta over an order requiring masks.
Some schools in GA reopened this week, and at least one classroom's students and teacher are now on self-isolation after a 2nd grader was discovered to be infected with #COVID-19.
A high school student was suspended after posting a photo of a crowded hallway (no distancing!) full of students without masks, and the principal used the public address system to threaten the other students with the same.

I was on the phone with S a couple of nights ago. She needed someone to talk to because her dad is hospitalized. His test results have not come back yet, but they suspect #COVID-19. Her younger brother, who had recently moved from #NC to #GA to take care of him, had been tested and is on self-quarantine.
While we were still on the phone, her older brother (I don’t know what state he’s in) texted her to inform her he was being tested for #2019-nCoV at a hospital emergency room.
She did not say whether it was possible that either her mom or herself had been exposed, but last I heard, her parents still lived in the same house.
This is what happens when governors refuse to do their jobs (and refuse to allow mayors to do theirs).
