Flash cards for #GD2 were delivered today. Also flash cards for #A1, #A2, and #A3.

#sonOne reports that #GD2’s books arrived today. Part of it is a five-book set (Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and others in the “Fudge” series).
He’s turning it into a daddy-daughter book club. They’re each going to read a book, then they’ll discuss it.
I also got her a four-book set (the “Ramona” series), but I can barely remember anything about them (except “Nosmo King” … the dad smokes a pipe, so the youngest daughter puts up a no smoking sign next to his chair. Because of the way the letters were spaced, he reads it and asks who Nosmo King is).

Ordering "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" for #GD2, because I think she will like it.

Sent this to #GD2, so she knows Grandpa is cool.

#GD2 and #A1 (ages 9 and 8) are getting these soon. https://nu.federati.net/attachment/280836

I'm in a text conversation with my nine year old granddaughter #GD2. She tells me about a TV show and says "I used to watch it when I was a kid". I had a good laugh out of that one.

#GD2 and #A1 are about to experience a treat from the past. I ordered rereleases of "CDB!" and "CDC?" for them. Thanks to textspeak, I think they will be easier to understand now.
-
Also of note: I asked his cousin ( #GD2 ) whether she had a bike, but she doesn’t have one.
I immediately thought: What 9 year old doesn’t have a bike?
But I know that the drivers in that part of the city are scary, even when you’re in a car.

I finally had two days off in a row. I feel better, but still not where I should be.
I didn’t go downstairs and hit the treadmill. I think I need to reserve some time each day for the treadmill, seeing that I was gasping for air when I ran up a few flights of stairs at work recently.
I also didn’t get a response from the kids about putting grandkids (at least #GD2, #GS3, and their cousin A1) on videochats, so they never happened.
-
Took a short break at work to call #GD2. I was in a store and saw a section of children’s books, so I wanted to know what she likes.
She said “dog and cat books” and then she texted me: I like dog and cat books. I’m sending this reminder so you don’t forget again.
Thanks. Now I need to find another reason to call.

¿Estás aprendiendo español?
Found a Spanish <—> English dictionary at the 99 Cents Only store, so I got two: one for #GD1 and one for #GD2.

Good morning. It is 2021-01-09 16:50 UTC (08:50 PST). I’ve finished today’s #YoCo ( #yogurt and #coffee ) and have planned a day of relaxation.
I’m probably anticipating too strongly, but today’s schedule includes:
* phone call with #Daddy_A and #Little_Boy_A and possibly playing a game together
* videochat with brother and his wife + other family members
* #videochat with #sonTwo and #GS3
* phone call with #faveNephew
* drawing something to send to #GD1 and #GD2 ... the younger granddaughter hasn’t been sending me any of her animations recently.
-
His cousin #GD2 was also really into her scribbles. She eventually got into a special art-focused program at school, and is now doing animations.
I don’t claim that #GS3 is going to follow the same path, but he’s more art-focused than any of the other grandkids (besides GD2) were at that age.

Looking at the planets each evening reminds me of when my mom had a telescope and used to take #sonTwo and my niece LG out in the back yard for celestial observation evenings once or twice per month.
I’m looking forward to living close enough to #GS3 and his soon-coming baby brother so that I can do something similar with them. And I’m open to picking up #GD1 and #GD2 (three hours in each direction) for an occasional weekend in which “telescope night” would be a regular fixture.

Missed today's scheduled #videochat with #sonOne, #GD1, #GD2. Tried to have one with #sonTwo and his wife and #GS3, but it didn't happen either.
-
Could barely hear #GD2 on today's call. She told me that she's learning animation. She has mentioned it before, but now I wonder whether this is part of a school enhancement / enrichment program.

I almost always text in almost full English sentences. Almost always capitalized and punctuated, but sometimes I leave off parts like "I am ..." or "You are ..." at the beginning of a sentence.
My granddaughter #GD2 also does that, which makes her messages much easier to read and understand than #GD1's which are often in her own cryptic dialect of text-speak.

Wow, #GD2 is now 97. She was 8, but you add 1 for her birthday to get 9. The 1 has to come from somewhere, so we take it away from the 8, which leaves 7.

01:10 Central / 23:10 Pacific. Receive a Wire message from #GD2 (8 years old granddaughter).
Staying silent, because I know she's got online school tomorrow and don't want to be her excuse for staying up even later.

Me: What kind of books do you like?
#GD2: I like dog books and cat books.
Later
Me: I could not find any snake books. I hope you’re okay with dog and cat books.
