#SoCal having a little heat wave this week. Temperatures expected to hit 100°F (+/- 5°F) in the #Inland_Empire, #High_Desert. Higher temperatures in the #Low_Desert. #Los_Angeles peaks at 85°F. Expecting to date-based break records all week.

Virgin Trains is building a high speed rail link between !SoCal and #Las_Vegas, #NV. They plan to end it North of the Cajon Pass. That may be because of problems acquiring rights-of-way there.
I just think that not extending the line to Ontario International Airport (ONT) in Ontario, #CA, is likely to doom the train to low ridership. If I'm driving from #Los_Angeles, by the time I get to the Mojave Desert, I've already spent half of the time it takes to get to Las Vegas. Am I then going to pull into the park and ride and hop on the train? I just do not think most people will do so.
The extra hour of drive time is probably the difference between driving or hopping on a train.
NOTE: I'm in favor of the high speed rail link. I just think they need to extend it, so that the SW terminus is closer to most of the people who'll ride it.

Mark drove home to the #Los_Angeles area last weekend. He passed within 10 miles or so of where I live, stopped at #In-N-Out fifteen or twenty minutes away. I'm glad he didn't call and ask me to meet him there, because it was late.

@geniusmusing When one of my brothers joined USAF, he was sent to a base back East, where there was only one other person known to be from #SoCal. The guy told everyone his home was "near Los Angeles" ... it was a small town in the Coachella Valley ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wikiCoachella_Valley ) area of far eastern #Riverside County.
By that measure, most or all of SoCal is near #Los_Angeles.

Growing up in a #Los_Angeles suburb, sometimes the mountains were barely visible. But after a rain or wind storm, they seemed so close that you could touch them.

$EMPLOYER has cancelled almost all travel immediately. I should call Mark about his upcoming vacation (at home in #Los_Angeles, #SoCal). I don't know whether going home to have non-emergency medical appointments is considered "essential" right now.

Getting several flash flood alerts from #NOAA / #NWS for !SoCal. #San_Bernardino, #Riverside, #Orange counties. Likely also true in #San_Diego, #Los_Angeles, #Ventura, #Imperial counties, but they’re not in my monitoring zone.
Avoid places with standing water on the road. Keep your speed down. Use inner lanes when you can, so you avoid the higher water accumulations in the outside lanes.

#NOAA / #NWS issuing Winter weather advisories and Winter storm advisories in #SoCal. #San_Bernardino and #Riverside counties: 1-4 inches of snow above 4,000 feet, 50MPH winds. In the High Desert and in the Morongo Basin, snow above 3,000 feet. Expect travel on #I-15, #US-395, #SR-18, #SR-247, #SR-62, #SR-138, #SR-58 to be disrupted.
I don't get alerts for #Kern, #Inyo, #Los_Angeles, #Orange, #San_Diego, #Imperial, #Ventura, #Santa_Barbara, #San_Luis_Obispo counties, but there are likely to be similar alerts for elevations in those areas. Should be just rain in areas below 3,000 feet ... but some flooding is possible.

How is my phone ( with a number from Jefferson City, #MO [ #JCMO ] ) getting all these spam SMS and MMS messages from #Los_Angeles #CA numbers. Granted, I'm in #SoCal, but the spammers long ago switched to spoofing numbers from one's own area code.

In the #Los_Angeles #SoCal area, about to head for a place that serves Middle East / North Africa food. One of my youngest siblings is celebrating his upcoming birthday. We'll also commemorate a nephew, a niece, and a grandchild whose birthdays are within a week of his, all of whom are in other states.

@triodug Something we learned in #Los_Angeles: if you have a good-sized market and refuse to pay for a stadium / arena, the teams will come back after several years and pay for it themselves.
It was striking to see the #NFL #Rams walk away from a free stadium and rabid fan base to return to Los Angeles and pay for their own stadium.

Another reason homeownership is sliding for those who don't already own real estate: the price is rising at many times the inflation rate. One guy I worked with in #Sacramento told me he lives in a major city near the agency's regional office, and that renting apartments (not buying / becoming an owner, renting!) in that relatively high crime area costs around $4,000 per month. In my former #Los_Angeles County area in #SoCal, the homes I lived in when I was growing up (less than 1,200 square feet, with a tiny yard, built in the 1950s) are all showing a value of $500K or more on RedFin.
That's price growth of 10X or more within my lifetime.
