@clacke One more thing. BYU's cost is subsidized, at least for members of their sponsoring church. #Missouri University's ("Mizzou") cost is subsidized, at least for Missouri residents. If you wish to see how much higher education really costs, take a look at a private non-religious campus, such as the University of Southern California.
Costs exploded, in part, because "go to college or you won't get a good job" + student financial aid programs = mad attendance growth = captive market of students.

Winding down my time in #Missouri. It looks like I'll get home for a week or two at the end of this month before I'm off to the next assignment. I was offered a chance to go directly to a one-month #Kansas, but it would have meant not getting home between assignments.
Happy! And sad, because when I'm not in this part of the country, I don't get to visit #GD1 and #GD2.

@steve Thanks! I'm currently in #Missouri, but I was still in the office at sunset.

I have returned to mid #Missouri after spending Christmas with my oldest son & his family.

@dog I officially still live in #SoCal, but I'm currently working in #Missouri. One of the kids lives there with his family (including my grandson #Little_Boy_A).

RE: https://nu.federati.net/notice/728428 ... I told #sonTwo a few days ago that I was trying to persuade a young male in #Arkansas to go see a doctor. My son says "Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?"
(We then had a long discussion about how confusing the insurance plan is and how there doesn't seem to be an easy way to determine which doctors in #Missouri are covered by my #California insurance.)

It is also time to start looking for clothing with Missouri U, Lincoln U, and other #Missouri higher ed logos on them. The #grandkids' regular reminder that they are college-bound is overdue.

My trainee is almost 70% through his training book. Tomorrow, he leaves #Missouri. Assuming he doesn't suddenly get a bad attitude, I'll recommend him for the next level book after he completes a couple more assignments. Meanwhile, one trainee from #Louisiana, whom I told to look outside the agency, got a job with a different federal agency. He's their problem now.

@theru @tobias Good #tzag from #Missouri, US. And good #tzaf. #Sleepytime here.

Are you on call for (customer-facing location in Miami)? They need IT support.
Me: No, I'm in #Missouri.
I called Mark in a different part of #Florida to have him relay the request to SoFlo IT. I think I should forward my number.

Latest is that $EMPLOYER expects the #Missouri operation to wrap in December, but with a steep staff cut at the end of this month. #Tennessee just wrapped. #Georgia pulled K from #TN. #Nevada tried to pull some people from #MO, but was denied. And they're still only offering starting pay of $12-16/hour (with almost zero chance of raises in the next few years) and wondering why we can't staff our agency sufficiently.
-
I expect there to be another #hairport day in under a month, as the number of branch offices in #Missouri is already falling, and every federal agency is being called upon to send folks to assist in #PR, #VI, #TX, and to a lesser extent #FL and #LA.

Entering payroll data. But oops, there's no account code for your assignment in #Missouri.
So I look up the code used in previous pay periods and hit search. It cannot find it. Then I see codes from two years ago (another time I worked in #MO and the time I worked in #MS) and a button that says "Find new accounting codes" ... that only took 30-45 minutes.
Fixed and working now.

Even with all the time I've spent in #Missouri over the past 8 years, this is the first time that the #St_Louis area has been a positive experience. I've been all over St Louis and St Charles counties and all the way down to Cape Girardeau County, wearing my Dodgers cap.
Except for bad / slow drivers and a hotel permeated with cigarette smoke, I haven't experienced anything negative here.
