Getting a bunch of #NOAA / #NWS red flag / fire weather warnings for eastern #KS and western #MO. I'm guessing adjacent counties in #OK and #AR could also be under warning.
-
#NOAA / #NWS alert for SW #MO: possible #tornado W of Springfield heading NE until 20:30 US-Central. Includes Mount Vernon and #I-44 between mile markers 42 and 58.
Heavy rain may hide this tornado. Do not wait to see or hear the tornado. TAKE COVER NOW!

@morph @zoowar @grmpyoldman In the US, "The Weather Company" started naming Winter storms because it increases viewership of the Weather Channel and their web sites. It is just marketing. #NOAA (the part of the US government that contains #NWS, the national weather service) does not do this.
It annoys me when people refer to "Winter Storm Ariel".
-
@zerohedge Sometimes, I wish you actually monitored this account.
1. #NOAA / #NWS does not name Winter storms. That's a marketing ploy by The Weather Company (currently a subsidiary of IBM).
2. Sounds a lot like Superstorm Sandy, where three different storm systems (including a hurricane and a Winter storm) merged into one big mess.
3. The nation's disaster response community is already overstretched, understaffed, and underfunded. Congressional inaction is the worst thing about the expected big event.

#NOAA / #NWS has been pretty active. Since yesterday at 14:30, they've sent 15 Winter advisory warnings for areas in #KS and #MO, mostly wind chills as low as -25°F for the next few days.
-
#NOAA #NHC site no longer shows any mark for #TropStorm Philippe http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
-
Oddly, #sonTwo did not say anything about #TropStorm Philippe's effects on #SoFlo. Maybe that will be in one of today's calls. #NOAA #NHC says the storm is affecting the #Bahamas as it speeds away from #Florida.
-
TD18 forms over the Caribbean. Heading for #Cuba and #Florida, if the #NOAA #NHC projection is correct. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
Meanwhile, Selma is now a tropical depression over #El_Salvador.
-
Also, #NOAA / #NWS tornado watch in effect from central #KS northwest through #MO and into #IA. 'Watch' meaning tornadoes possible, but not yet observed.
-
#NOAA / #NWS severe #t-storm warnings going out for the #KCKS / #KCMO area. Wind gusts up to 60MPH, hail. Radar indicated. Storm affects #Kansas, #Missouri, #Iowa.
-
Looks like #TropStorm Nate may be spending part of the weekend in New Orleans. At least, that's what the #NOAA #NHC chart predicts. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
-
Newest #NOAA #NHC bulletin RE: #hurricane #Irma: https://is.gd/0wzawo Winds 110 MPH, moving N at 14 MPH
-
Latest from #NOAA / #NHC: #hurricane #Irma: eyewall hammering Ft Myers, FL. Winds 110MPH (Cat 2).
-
#NOAA / #SPC issued #tornado watch (not yet a warning) for #FL due to #hurricane #Irma http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/watch/ww0483.html
-
So a former #NOAA #NWS #NHC director is now a forecast presenter for The Weather Channel? Is this what I'm seeing? Big win for TWC, but it makes me wonder why he left NOAA.
-
Looking at #NOAA satellite images. It looks like Lafayette and other parts of #Louisiana are getting the heavy rainfall now. I haven't heard any damage reports from the area, so maybe less than the bright colors indicate.
-
#NOAA #NHC: As of 16:00 US-Central, "...TROPICAL STORM HARVEY BARELY MOVING... ...TORRENTIAL RAINS WILL CONTINUE..." http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ Winds now 65MPH, storm stationary. #TropStorm #Harvey

#NOAA / #NWS is going crazy with alerts tonight. I'm sure they are exaggerating the effects of the storm over #KCMO / #KCKS tonight.
