I often wonder how long it takes people to form an effective mental map of #NYC and its five boroughs. Even the public transit system can be a confusing mess of routes.

#NYC seems to have these shootouts regularly.

#NYC seems a lot more willing to block off a street for an event than most #SoCal cities. Today, a church had a festival. The street was barricaded and the street was filled with music and dining. Both the #USA flag and the #Greece flag were being flown.

Dealing with hotels is such a bother. If I am set to be in your establishment for a month or more, you don't have to put a hold on my card for the entire amount. You can hold a week at a time, so I have the ability to pay for other work related expenses.
Getting contacted by HQ about the hotel's excessive holds is also not fun. This happened in #PR also, but never anywhere else before I came to #NYC.

#NYC tops the Weather Company's list of sweatiest US cities https://weather.com/news/trending/video/sweatiest-cities-in-us-revealed
After walking around the last week, I believe it.

Walked through parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan today. Sat in Washington Square Park and listened to a group of seniors strumming guitars and singing. I recognized 'Nowhere Man'. Then some people playing brass horns started playing across the park.
#NYC feels really humid recently. Even sitting in the shade leaves me drenched in sweat.

I don't have any clarity about when my last day in #NYC will be. I'm tempted to send the #Win10 laptop home when I send the main ( #Kubuntu ) laptop home. Maybe I can get a basic, inexpensive Chromebook or a cheap #Win11 two-in-one to use for the rest of my time here.
If I knew a specific date, I might decide to hold onto the Win10 machine ... or to get a full replacement computer.

Previously, I was in walking distance of where I worked, so I had no commuting. Having done 2-3 hours driving in each direction several years ago, commuting is one of the things I dislike most.
So if someone asked me how I liked #NYC, my andwer was of the "I don't have to commute, so it is good" variety. But now, I can mention the pop up musical groups as the major positive.
(The subway and my previous walk to work is more the absence of a negative.)

I don't know whether I responded. Yes, troubleshooting data would be useful. I'm still in #NYC, but I'm hoping to do some major updates to all !fnetworks sites when I return to #SoCal.

#NYC violent crimes up 43% over last year, according to #msnbc

In #NYC today, they blocked off a street near Union Square and had various vendors set up in the street. There was German bratwurst stand (the family actually has a Deutsch accent), so I bought a chicken brat.
I suppose this is an Easter thing. There was a smaller food vending area a couple of miles away yesterday. I saw it, but did not stop to buy anything.

Today in #NYC, I saw a youth riding his skateboard and dribbling a basketball. I have never seen this done before. I wanted to take a photo or video, but he was already past me and receding quickly.

Mark isn't coming to #NYC today. They have been busy with shutting down an office, and he's tired. Maybe in a week or two.

#NYC sending out emergency alerts about the suspected shooter with link to their site ( https://a858-nycnotify.nyc.gov/notifynyc/ ) for more info. Site cannot handle the volume.

@clacke Yeah, even family members don't always know. #faveNephew told me that he thought I was in upstate New York, despite me sending pictures of various #NYC landmarks.

Someone was cut with a box-cutter as they left a subway station this morning.
Last night, someone walking to the subway with groceries was killed by a stray bullet from a confrontation down the street.
#NYC is having a little violence right now.

This operation is scaling down. In a couple of weeks, there will be only two #NYC buildings left, with one IT person at each. I was prepared to leave, so that a subordinate who has roots in the area could continue to interact with the people in their life, but news of the expected grandbaby in a few months has me wanting to stretch it out.
I had the chance to volunteer to leave, but I passed.

I had told him that I had been looking forward to the end of the assignment because I was feeling a little tired. Then they sent me to #Albany, and I felt somewhat refreshed. After a few weeks there, they said to return to #NYC, and I had told him that if my body started to feel the same as it had, I would head back to #SoCal for a couple of weeks and then attempt to visit #MO.
He said that since it is sometimes difficult to get large chunks of time off when desired, I should wait, because they wanted me to visit later in the year, when there would be another baby to meet.

So I was pretty tired, and was looking forward to leaving this assignment. Then they sent me to #Albany and I felt energized, even though I think I slept less.
Now, I'm back in #NYC, and I'll just have to see what my body says.

Most of these subway stations were built when people were thinner and fitter. Climbing these stairs has me out of breath.
