A car bomb near Moscow, #Russia. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/22/briefing/russia-bombing-imran-khan.html [www nytimes com]
Naturally, some of the elites blame #Ukraine, but if I was planning a bombing in an invading country, I would probably strike against its weapon-making industries, its fuel / energy industries, its transportation industries, even though this is believed to have been targeted at the originator of the philosophy of "survival of Eurasia against Western aggression" that #Putin parrots in his speeches. IMO, now that Vlad the Invader has already ingested the ideas, killing the originator will have little effect on the eventual outcome.

> Russian fighters in Ukraine are being killed or wounded at high rates, with some estimates between 70,000 and 80,000
That's both killed and wounded, but that's a huge number considering that not all of #Russia's military is even involved in the #Ukraine invasion.
As a comparison, the #USSR suffered 15,000 deaths in its 10 year war in Afghanistan. ( See https://www.britannica.com/event/Soviet-invasion-of-Afghanistan ).

#Russia has not abandoned its goal of crushing #Ukraine's statehood
https://nu.federati.net/url/286834 [www atlanticcouncil org]
Also, in a recent poll, 77% of Russians support the invasion. https://nu.federati.net/url/286835 [www atlanticcouncil org]
> There has been considerable speculation over scale of Russian backing for the war in Ukraine, with critics questioning the credibility of numerous government-linked surveys showing strong levels of support. While any attempt to accurately gauge opinion in a dictatorship is notoriously difficult, the Levada Center’s recent data is likely to be the most legitimate available indication of public feeling toward the war.

Only total defeat in Ukraine can cure Russia of its imperialism
https://nu.federati.net/url/286726 [www atlanticcouncil org]
> Some government officials in Kyiv have announced Ukraine’s aspiration to liberate all territories occupied by Russia, including Crimea. The Ukrainian army’s proven ability to defeat Russian forces on the battlefield and the accelerating delivery of heavy weapons from the West make this goal of complete liberation at least theoretically possible.
> However, some Western leaders fear the consequences of a comprehensive Ukrainian victory and favor the idea of a compromise peace. Most notably, French President Emmanuel Macron has repeatedly warned against “humiliating” Vladimir Putin. Advocates of appeasement ignore the fact that any settlement which leaves Russia in possession of Ukrainian lands occupied since 2014 would weaken the international security order and effectively reward Russia for aggression, thereby setting the stage for further wars.
It seems so obvious that one wonders why political leaders are not seeing it. If we want #Russia to stop trying to reconquer its previous conquests (the other #USSR nations), we have to give #Ukraine every possible tool to beat the invaders ... and we have to continue to present a united front against the invasion, despite the oil, gas, grain, and other economic repercussions.

Saw a headline today saying that Vladimir #Putin continues to compare himself to Peter the Great, and to speak of #Russia's grand imperial ambitions.
I think there is hardly a country in Europe or Asia that would not be affected by the increasingly likely spread of this war.
