Looked at possibly installing "Crystal":{https://crystal-lang.org/} on the #Win10 laptop, but then I saw they recommend installing it through WSL.
They really should make a Windows-native installer if they want it to run on Windows. BONUS: make it installable / updatable through NuGet & Chocolatey.
#Crystal is sort of like a compiled version of #Ruby.

Third "reboot required" Windows update in the last two weeks. And I see that #Win10 21H1 is set to download soon. I think I'm going to go ahead and install it now, so it doesn't interrupt me when I'm doing something productive.
(Hasn't happened much lately, to the extent that I think all three kids are worried, but I'm working toward getting back into my normal production mode.)

I was just playing with #rehash ( http://rehash.sourceforge.net/rehash.html ) on #Win10. I was looking at some commandline switches and entering them. It seemed like nothing was happening, so I retried a couple of times. Then suddenly, the Command Prompt terminal started filling with hashes.
It looks like it processes all the various CRC and hashing algorithms before it returns a result. It has a bunch of algos that I’ll never have any use for, but also most of the ones that I foresee using in the near future.

Using #Chocolatey on #Win10 and starting to notice some packages are years out of date. The only reason I noticed was that I looked at the details and saw a 2016 date on one package. I then went to the project’s site and found out that there had been a couple of releases since then.

I was thinking about the implications of #MSFT's compromise ... could be that every #Win10 system in the world has another backdoor added. And #Win8.1 and all supported #WinServer versions.

@adcock No, I have not had any recent issues with #PulseAudio. Others have, but I've been using #Win10 or my #iPad for media playing and voicechat.
I did have a #Windows issue where a chat could not find my microphone except during audio setup, but I think it was because #WinUpdate required a reboot.
-
I was trying to audiochat with someone a week or two ago, using the #Win10 laptop. The chat system wouldn't pick up my microphone, even though the audio tuning phase heard and played back my audio. This is modern computing. #Windows cloning the #Linux #PulseAudio ("Why isn't this working?!?!") experience.

Was suddenly unable to print from #Win10. Tried all the standard tricks.
Then I realized what happened. Two routers / #Wi-Fi access points. When The computer connects to the closer of the two, the #WSD port decides the printer is "offline", even though I can view the printer's configuration web page with a browser. Went back to reliable TCP/IP port and multiple jobs flowed out of the print queue.
It's been a few years since I had to replace WSD (Web Services for Devices) port monitors to make printers work. Putting this back in my toolbox.

Let’s see what updates we have today. The $EMPLOYER machine runs on a different schedule than my personal #Win10 laptop (and a widely different set of software, too).
-
Annoying that #Ubuntu family operating systems still do not give a “use UTC” option during installation for the system timezone. Even my #Win10 laptop uses UTC.
Too many family members are in timezones other than US-Pacific. Using a local timezone is just confusing, just as using AM and PM instead of 24-hour time is.

LOL. Last night (well, this morning at 03:00), I turned off the laptop with "install updates and shut down".
Turned the #Win10 laptop on a little while ago and now it wants to reboot again. Why have they not mastered installing all the available updates at once, then requiring a reboot?
-
The #Win10 machine is using 76% of its memory with nothing open except the task manager. It's got 8Gigs of RAM. Going to shut it off and see what it looks like when I start it again in the morning.
-
The #Win10 update (feature update 2004) had downloaded and “installed” the other night, so rather than deal with restarts, I shut the computer off. That means I now get to wait through the process now.
-
Feature updatr to #Win10, vetsion 2004. Oh, joy!
-
Another member of $EMPLOYER #TechTeam told me his laptop just got upgraded to #Win10 1909. I hope HQ-IT thought about how to support those whose "upgrades" fail to complete, leaving an unusable device.

#Win10 updates almost finished installing. Still somewhat dragulent.
-
I am not sure whether it is #Win10 or the #VPN, but one of the two is having a little trouble today. Downloading updates is really dragulent today.
(Dragulent as in "slow and draggy".)

Using the #Win10 machine and I caught myself typing “whereis env”.
LOL

One of the things that I dislike about #Win10 is that in dual-monitor and triple-monitor setups, it regularly and frequently drops one monitor, internally flipping it to "never use". Sometimes, I've had as many as five users queued up when I came in the door so I could turn it back to "use this monitor".
