reading everyones hot takes about the daily dot piece. ugh. people are really forgetting how decentralization works. there is no "mastodon" culture. there are bubbles. failing to mention that over half the people on the fediverse don't speak english and live in countries that have their own politics and their own presidents and dictators to talk about.

Is there any less problematic place I can port my google voice number to? I use it for all my texting cause it works internationally and is free. I am willing to pay for this service if the money can go somewhere non shitty. Would love it if there was a free software based SMS service.

heres a question! what is the oldest registered domain on the fediverse?! I think I saw an instance on an MIT domain so maybe something like that. SDF has also been around for a long time.

over 1000 user accounts will be deleted from the fediverse in 2 days. the problem of admins deciding they don't want to run instances and refusing to hand them over to others has continued and it doesn't seem like there is any move to work on a serious fix for this issue.

a number of people offered to take over last time I posted about this in September but it seems nothing changed their mind.
