i've been keeping my beloved copy of Macaulay's The Way Things Work--worn to hell, spine held together with duct tape, taught me how computers use transistors to add numbers when i was 12--to share with my kids someday
just noticed the title page describes a computer mouse with a mechanical ball in it. might as well be a rotary telephone
luckily there have been two revisions to the book, the latest in 2016 ("The Way Things Work Now")
