@1iceloops123 That would be good in a way, but it doesn’t fix the fact that $PRINTER_MAKER thinks it is acceptable to try to force customers to (1) buy supplies only from them, (2) at times determined by the company, not the customer. Buying a printer should not be consenting for $PRINTER_MAKER to control your actions.

@lnxw48a1 I like HP's (at least business-oriented devices) approach to this. You can buy whatever, and there are at least a couple "authorised" vendors for offbrand cartridges, even though they still recommend the genuine stuff. It doesn't force anything, but if you do use non-authorised stuff, its recorded and you void the warranty. That's fair: a company shouldn't have to support stuff that may just well ruin their machine (put oil or rubber based inks in a normal aqueuos ink printer, and you'll cripple the thing at best), but they don't remove from you the element of choosing to do so if you really want to.
No idea if their consumer-grade stuff allows that same freedom. I wouldn't bet on it.
