Essentially, the reason HLA is still here bobbing along just fine and Plateia looks like a fucking graveyard, is HLA is mostly networked with the GNU social side of things and some matsoc instances that mostly use glitchsoc or older mastodon versions, while plateia was mostly networked with mastodon instances that keep fairly up to date, and Mastodon beyond a certain version breaks federation in a LOT of different ways, to the point where Plateia can't really reliably talk with most of them. Just look at its network timeline :/

@purplehippo Yeah I just ignored that bloke, he goes between instances like I do panties around Katie anyways

@maiyannah There's a little more than that going on. #Plateia's outgoing posts federate fine, at least to #GNU_Social and #Pleroma. Plateia does not seem to receive incoming posts, even from GS instances, except for direct replies and mentions.

Which just could be incoming items getting stuck behind a batch of deformed & defective items.

@lnxw48a1 Yes but that's sympthomatic, it has so many retries queued up for bad mastodon notices that it "blocks" receiving other hubsub messages. Salmons are processed seperately and do not have a retry mechanism, so they work.
That said, that it can end up blocking in that way, is probably a design flaw worth addressing.
